Look at the last post in the other river thread. It looks like both spillways will be opening.

River is set to crest at 17' in mid January. At 20' it will over top the levees in New Orleans..

They didn't update the Miss River rise for Reserve and New Orleans today. If you look upstream though the River would probably be around 17.5 to 18 in New Orleans. River Ridge is the most vulnerable spot on the Miss River having almost breached through in 72. They can't have that happen.

It certainly looks like they're both opening soon.

They won't change the crest elevation in reserve and New Orleans Bc the corp won't let it get any higher. They'll open every gate they can upstream to prevent New Orleans getting above 17'.

Sarcasm? Sherburne will have 10ft of water.

IB is already deep as hell

I bet, the water levels change crazy fast in IB. Scouted one day and found good spot in knee deep water, 2 days later it was neck deep.
Posted on 12/29/15 at 2:01 pm to GREENHEAD22
it was already high and beginning to fall but has gone back up 2' in less that two weeks...

They open it if the river flow gets to 1.5 million cubic feet per second at Red River.
Posted on 12/29/15 at 5:16 pm to LSUengr
is it projected to get to that cubic flow rate? (1.5million)

You seem to be in the know about the river. I look forward to your updates and hope it is not as bad as your comments suggest.

I have too much time on my hands & I was a merchant mariner for 7 years. I have always been fascinated with the inland river system & meteorology.
I'm not saying it's going to be the big one right now. I'm saying a lot can go wrong between now & summer.

Has there been another situation where red and mississippi have both been so far above flood stage at same time? Old river sounds like it will get another test.
