How does it compare to SW Arkansas or NE Arkansas?

NWA- wine and fine cheese

rest of Ark- natty light and great value velveta

I'm from SW Ark. There are neat places to visit all over the western half of the state but I will never live in Arkansas again unless its NWA or the nicer LR suburbs (Conway, Bryant etc.)

Are there any ghettos in NWA?

Can you reasonably get around on a bicycle without a homicidal F250 driver clipping you?

Oh and what's the property taxes, home insurance, and auto insurance like?

Is the water any good?

No ghettos and plenty of bike trails. When I first came up here I thought the water tasted funny but you get used to it.

Why do I pretty much never hear about Fayetteville or NWA when discussions of good, cool places for families to move to come up?

It's always DFW, Austin, Houston, Charlotte, Nashville, Minnesota, Madison, SLC, PHX, or anywhere in Colorado.

There aren't ghettos in NWA.

The small towns in NWA get overlooked sometimes but they are some great quiet towns very close to Fayetteville that have good schools and are near a bunch of cool outdoor spots

Yeah there is, it's called Springdale.

But really, I love NW Arkansas. It is some place I can see myself in the long term once I settle down a bit. People from all over the country, small town feel, tons of shite to do, great craft beer, nice towns, and plenty of jobs and money to go around. Lived there for 5 months and enjoyed my time there. Will make a trip to watch Ole Miss play there for sure.

Well those are actual cities. I think within 20 years, Fayetteville will be the second largest city in Arkansas and it's always growing. Tons of jobs and really nice. It's just not really a city.

An LSU cap will start a large number of conversations but I've seldom found them to be negative. They like talking sports and they dig the SEC connection, I think.

When they found out I was an Ole Miss fan, they loved talking about how much they hate Houston Nutt, and assumed I hated him as well. When I said I didn't give a shite about him and wish him the best, they were very bewildered and got a little pissed.

If like to go as part of a larger vacation but it's so fracking far out of the way from anything other than the ozarks. I guess I can stay 1 or 2 nights on the way back from Chicago.

I'm kind of surprised that taxes are a little high overall in Arky.

Real estate in NWA is waaaaaaay cheaper than Ascension Parish, our vehicle insurance went from $110 per month in NWA to $280 per month in LA. With all of that said though.....my income is substantially more in South LA than NWA. So, the additional income more than offsets the other expenses.

Just trying to give you both sides of the coin, and also a view from my perspective of both places.

Probably because on a national scale, it is a hidden gem. Literally.
You have to understand how fast this place has grown since the 1980s. Hell, even the 1990s. For years, the NW corner of Arkansas was only accessible by arguably the most dangerous road in the state.

Since I540 was built(now I49)it has become more accessible to everyone over the last 20 or so years.

NWA has been, and still is one of the fastest growing metro's in the United States.

The great thing though, is it all still has more of a small town feel, even though there are over 500k residents in NWA. There are huge sky scrapers, there aren't annoying billboards or hugely lit signs at night. All of those types of things are against city building ordinances here. Everything for the most part is cleanly built, cleanly advertised, etc.

There are a lot of transplants from the DFW area here now. Its sort of like a mini DFW metro. Only spot in the state with the Texas Whataburger chain. The UofA gives Texas students in state tuition, which is a reason in the increased number of Texas transplants over the last 5-6 years.

I can't imagine it being good.

Ozarks are cool, though

It is. Traffic is effing awful in NWA. Terrible infrastructure and terrible solutions to population growth, as far as roads are concerned. People bitch about BR traffic.....give me BR traffic over the clusterfrick of roads in NWA. I would rather drag my balls over broken glass than attempt to get from point A to point B in NWA. I haven't lived there in three years, but my sister has stated recently that traffic is even worse now as compared to when we left.

I lived in northwest Arkie for over 10 years and loved it. That area is very nice and very pretty. Great place if you like 4 seasons, snow and the outdoors.
