Common misconception about the 2013 lsu offense

I keep reading about how Les will open up the offense when he gets elite talent, similar to 2013. I just wanted to refresh your memories. The offense did our players no favors that season. Odell and Jarvis were regularly running 1 and 2 man route combinations where they would both be bracketed. Mett was able to hit perfect back shoulder fades, and you had two all pro (maybe even hall of fame) receivers.

Yep. And Mett to Landry on 3rd and medium was pretty near automatic to keep a lot of drives alive.

He can't wait until we have two all pro receivers, a top 10 nfl running back, and an nfl starting quarterback to finally decide to throw more than a hitch or a slant.

The offense in '13 was not very different than what we have today. Yes we threw across the middle of the field more but we had an NFL caliber QB to make those throws. Still a lot of gos and streaks, very little screen, and TE involvement. We just didn't care because of the two studs on the outside making plays.

Our receivers do so well in the league because its easier for them to get open in the NFL. They aren't double or triple teamed anymore.

That offense was great until Georgia, I felt like we reigned it in after that shootout.

I wish we threw more of these.

our offense is effective with good execution; however, it takes elite players like mett, obj, jarvis, and hill to execute the offense

the only thing that opened up in 2013 was the middle of the field
other than that, the offense was the same as it was this year, just ran more effectively

eh, we scored 59 points the very next week against Miss State and had a great game offensively against A&M as well. Arkansas, if you'll remember, was played largely without Beckham. We also ran for 273 yards on them.

So, the common misconception is that LSU's talent was so good that the LSU offense wasn't as good as perceived? Is your point really that the LSU offense was only good because of talent and execution?

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Landry has about a 0% chance of being a HOF receiver

OK, sooooo. . . Better talent + better execution = better offense.
Thanks for clearing that up.

He's got much better stats than Hines Ward at this point and their games remind me a lot of each other.
If Landry puts up these stats for 15 years he'd be in the HoF.
Obviously that is very tough to do. He has the game and toughness that will lend itself to a long career though. Great blocker, GREAT hands, great leader, etc.

Still ranked what, 7th in the SEC in offense that year?

The 3rd down conversion numbers were crazy IIRC

I agree 100%. Considering we had an NFL caliber QB, 2 all pro WR's and a NFL starting RB we still ran the same offense.

Under-utilized players, as usual.
