Can you at least qualify your definition of mediocrity? Because our results (ETA: including our current results) compared to most programs are not what any normal definition of mediocre would describe.

but it's still real money people. Our academics are struggling to stay afloat yet we were fine with ponying up 20+mil to make a football coaching change? I mean people have to have some kind of perspective here.
its not like these boosters said I'm either donating this money to the university or to fire Les.
It was privately raised money and if that's how they want to spend their money that's a personal decision.

frick F King and everyone like him. He is a disgrace to LSU. We need to get this clown the frick out.

I mean, I love LSU Football...and the athletic programs in general. Have spent more than enough time and money on their activities. But my degree from LSU allowed me to be in the position I'm in today to afford to do all of these things. I get it, he's in a delicate situation. He's basically having to choose from two bad situations and would have been chided either way.
Also, can we stop with the "Bama's enrollment and expansions" crap? Yes, they are growing but the entire thing is a fraud built on credit with the hope that they continue to grow at this pace and with the out of state numbers to counter the rising cost to do business on the academic front.

Why is that his strained logic that "the public and legislature don't understand" it's private money, apply to how much we pay Miles ($5M/annually)to stay?

I blame Jindal. Seriously.

Why would he say all of this? Hurts him and basically tells recruits and everyone else that the only reason we didn't fire our coach was money and politics.

That's not hard to figure out. It is clear that Alexander was willing to play as long as Jimbo was available. Once that target went beyond what he was initially willing to pay he called the whole thing off. He was not willing to fork over that kind of cash for a lesser name
You're still talking about a $20-25 million buyout for Miles and his assistants and Jimbo at FSU. So you're saying Alexander was playing along if we got Jimbo for $6M/yr but once Jimbo wanted $7M he called it off? I don't buy that.

The problem is that PRIVATE MONEY would have paid for all of it.
And the problem nationally is that it's an absolute joke that people would spend that much money on a football coach but can't be bothered pay professors of the university the team supposedly represents.
And btw, LSU recruits both students and athletes nationally, so that is very important.

mediocre would be a 14-10 over the last few years, finishing middle of the pack within your division

How can you blame alleva here? He was trying to save the program and got undercut by a short sighted a-hole.
This is why I was defending Alleva since day 1. It was very obvious other powers were at play and he was going to be the fall guy...alas people fell for it. Again.

Exactly what I was thinking, who is he to decide on whether or not people will understand where the money is coming from, what a total piece of shite, if I were a big time booster, I would be on the line with the athletic department and making sure we do not give a single penny to the University that we are obligated to. We gave like 3 extra million this past year.

“After the type of budget battle we went through this past spring we certainly do not need to be throwing tens of millions of dollars around under certain circumstances,” he says. “We don’t need to go into the next legislative session with a black eye that we’re throwing tens of millions of dollars around on issues that aren’t associated with academic progress
I thought the budget for coaches, particularly football was totally separate from the university budget he's is crying about???

That's the problem though. Where are these people when we were having the cut big time budget cuts for the university? Do people not realize there's no football without a school?

In fairness, Alabama is also investing in their academics.
Their enrollment numbers aren't getting beefed up solely because National Merit Scholars make their decisions based on watching of that there dadgum foosball.

He's probably correct, but most knowledgeable football fans do know. He's pretty damn arrogant.
He basically just called everyone stupid and blamed it on that. If you do not have a clue how LSU football works then you probably are not even remotely paying attention to State Budget talks.

Except someone had to fundraise for it. And when you're talking about money in the Millions to LSU it's going to be handled at the senior-level.
