re: How much do speeding tickets affect your insurance?

Jesus you guys whine about speeding tickets more than any group of people I've ever seen. Stop speeding or stop whining.
FWIW, I consider it a surtax on the way I choose to drive and count on getting a couple a year. I guess it depends upon your insurer and how accurately these things get reported to your DMV (my license is Washington State, though I haven't set foot there in 7 years) but the impact is negligible. As in, I haven't noticed any change or seen speeding tickets cited as considerations in my premium.
DUIs, at-fault accidents, or reckless driving matter. Speeding tickets, not so much.

I don't think I've ever spent too much time in the states in which my licenses were issued--I was in New York and Georgia for most my time with my La license, in Virginia, Florida, and Washington for most of the time with my Georgia license, and overseas and now back in Virginia/DC with my Washington license--which won't expire as long as I'm active duty.
Your insurance company will likely not know about the tickets. They won't be running reports on you, because you are already a client.

You got a ticket for going 89 with your family in the car!!!.....AFTER SLOWING DOWN!!!.....and you want to argue how he caught you?????

Bull shite. My Passport 9500ix has a specific alarm for laser, and it detects it every time. I'm calling Bull shite - I think he pulled 89 out of his arse and did not laser me
I agree with him about laser to a degree.
You are right, you can detect it. But he is right because once you detect it you are already cooked.
Radar sends signal all over the place, thus why you can pick up blips early. Laser is a single beam aimed at one car only.
So you paid a lot of money for no early detection on laser

NO - which is why I'm calling bullshite.
I know that once your detector picks up laser, they already have you. And I don't mind paying tickets. On the first one, he got me. Once I quit head banging long enough to see the cop, I realized what that faint ringing sound being drowned out by Slayer was - it was my detector going apeshite. Fair game. He got me - I paid it with no complaints.
But this time I'm calling bullshite on 89, and I straight up told him I do not believe he lasered me. My detector would have gone off. I would have been caught at that point, but it would have been a legit speed. And every time I questioned something he said, he responded with one of those "tighten the lips so you give that straight-across not-a-smile-but-not-a-smirk thing" and nodded his head. Then pulled answers out of his arse like "laser detectors are illegal" and "laser detectors don't exist" (to which I answered, "How are they illegal if they don't exist?). I'm normally VERY polite to officers - my dad was NOPD for nearly 20 years - but this stop was straight up bullshite and I was pissed.

Why are you driving so fast with your family in the car with you?

After working for State Farm for a few years I know for a fact they re run MVR's at renewal. Granted, this is in TX so I do not know the procedures in other states. Yes, it cost money to run MVRs, but not nearly as much as paying out claims that risky drivers cause. Insurance companies gladly pay for MVRs to either nonrenew or increase premiums.

Insurance is State Farm, btw
FWIW, your detector is not going to detector laser in every instance if its sitting up on your windshield. LEOs generally aim at the front grill or headlights to get a reading. LIDAR (laser) guns produce a very narrow beam of laser especially at close distances. The farther away, the wider the beam becomes. Also, the 9500ix is not known to be the best of the best at detecting laser anyway. That category belongs to the Valentine 1 and even if it detected laser your toast since he has your speed already. In other words, a laser detector is basically a ticket notifier.

Got one going 30 in a 20 on the West Bank yesterday. No, it was not a school zone.

You want to go 100mph on an empty highway? Have at it.
The problem is that most speeders weave in and out of traffic to keep their speed and put everyone on the road in danger.

laser detectors can only detect the laser if they "see" it. Use the app Waze, it's much better at alerting you to poilce using laser.
Also anything over 80 and they will pull you over every time.
You can (and I do) pay a lawyer to get it reduced. I usually pay the lawyer $125-200 and never have to worry about it again.

If people didn't camp out in the left lane this wouldn't be an issue. People going slow in the left lane are a bigger threat.
While 85 mph or so sounds fast to us, in many parts of the country 80mph is the posted limit and in Texas it goes up to 85 posted. It's not That fast. Cars today have more control and better braking ability at speed.
90 in a 70 is fast, but it's not like he was really putting his family in immediate danger.
Use Waze, get a laser jammer, but always run waze all the time. It will save your arse.
