spinoff: do you expect a loaner from the dealership

If you bought the car from them and the reason your vehicle is being serviced is on their behalf? Also what if it's not their fault just routine reason but will be a day or so wait?

If I buy a car from them, possibly.
If I bought a care from another dealer because that dealer "had a better price," then no.
But, unless I have a car under warranty, I wouldn't let a dealer's shop touch anything I own.

No, they bring a loaner to my house.

Only if they have a fully loaded 2014 Chrysler 300 C on the lot

I got a loaner when I got the transmission fluid in my Silverado changed. Dropped it off in the morning, drove their loaner to work, and when I returned that evening my truck was ready.
I did not buy the truck from that dealer.
When our Honda was recalled, we did not get a loaner but I also didn't ask for one either.

I haven't bought a vehicle in the state of Louisiana in a decade so I don't even ask. I have a spare vehicle.

Depending on the car. Anything luxury, then yes, the expectation is a loaner.

Nailed it.

Spinoffs are for the truly unimaginative. Congrats on not having any original thoughts.

It's more common with the nicer brands but I wouldn't say it's limited to them.
The folks I know with Mercedes Benz or Cadillacs schedule services and usually either have a loaner ready for them or the dealer picks them up and drops them off. The Buick and Lexus people I know often get loaners when their car is in for service as well.

I always get something to drive when they are servicing my vehicle. It's a benefit of buying vehicles from a smaller dealership

Exactly.
Not sure why I got DVs, but any luxury brand will come pick up your car and leave a loaner. SOP for Jaguar and Audi, pretty sure others do it, too.
Ford on the other hand, argues that there's even a problem.

If I bought my car from them and it's in the shop for warranty work, I expect a loaner.

I didn't buy a car from the dealership and I still get a free loaner.

If you patronize their service department, you should expect them to go to bat for you when something goes wrong.
GMC trucks have better dealers than Ford in my experience....I suspect because they are paired up often to Buick franchise stores. Buick seems to work very hard to keep their customers happy an loyal these days.
Honestly my experience with Ford was pretty horrible. I brought a fairly new POS Ford pickup in for a engine repair once and had to borrow my dad's old truck for almost two weeks. Aside from fighting me on making the repair under warranty, they pissed me off even more a few days later. I was at a Sonic for lunch and some guys from the dealer pulled in across from me in the very truck they were taking forever to repair. They ate in my truck and played the music very loud. I had a few words with them and their boss.....but at that point I was just done with that whole company. I still won't buy anything from them.

If I purchased the vehicle from the dealership and it was a serious issue, like a recall or manufacturer defect, then yes, it is reasonable to expect a loaner.
There are freeloaders, who buy their vehicle somewhere else, then expect another dealership to deal with the crap, usually at a loss.
They are put at the end of the line and usually the vehicle is parked in the back lot until they get caught up. And no, they usually don't get a loaner.
They gave the sale to another dealership, so don't expect the local dealership to fix the junk.
I have heard so many of these heels say, 'I'll never buy another vehicle here again.'. Well they are usually told to don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out
.
Besides, most of these leeches have never even bought a vehicle at the dealership.
It goes both ways.

When we take the SOs car we bought from them under warranty still, yes.
When we take my 10 year old, no. Even though I did buy it from them.
