with as many people who claim USC as the best job in america, this decision certainly leaves one scratching their head.

Of all the potential options out there and that's what they go with? Wow.

He's lit the football program on fire sooo an eye for an eye?

Who would you want in lieu of Helton? Chip? No thanks. Give me the guy that gets the most out of his players, and let the athletes do what they do best. That suffocation of fucla in the 4th quarter was exquisite. I'm OK with this. Stability matters right now, and so does keeping our recruiting class together.

You're high as a kite. UCLA and ND's win today was bigger than their losses on saturday. The entire Pac-12 is celebrating.

The insular USC administration has completely destroyed the football program. It won't recover for at least a decade.

Cody Kessler is Dan Patrick right now. The way he talks about him seems like the team rally rounds Helton and they play hard for him. That at least should come into consideration when looking for a coach. I honestly like that fact they kept in house with this hire. The program needs some type of continuity. If he's not a good playcaller, maybe he'll bring in another OC

Good question...I honestly can't think of one.

You have places like Minnesota that probably made the best hire they could by hiring their interim guy this year but it's Minnesota. I don't see them falling off or winning championships either with him.

I'd probably argue the opposite, in that USC needs a fresh (sober) face. And there are some very solid, proven coaching options out there right now.

I would have gone with Richt, but I'm no fan of USC.

USC retaining their coach
Has to be. At least Miles has some of the fan base on his side.

I'd be very happy with Richt. shite, I'd be more excited about Mack fricking Brown. Anyone with at least some track record of success.

Dabo and George O'Leary may be the only two that I can recall.

Yes. Call me crazy, but Chip K. and other human beings are like oil and water. They just don't mix.

Helton's players want to play for him. Hard. So he's not a "name" guy with flash. Remember how SC fans reacted when Pete was hired? Weren't fricking happy. Same reaction as now x10.

Also, this means (and this is really important) that Tee Martin isn't going anywhere. He's the cornerstone of recruiting at USC, and we all know that recruiting drives potential success in college football.

Frankly, the coaches available to replace Helton didn't inspire me, so if you feel uninspired by the hire, I get it. But I'm not feeling all the doom and gloom.

Adam Schefter said Chip had zero interest in going to USC on an interview on XM Radio last week, fwiw.

I'd be surprised if Patrick the Domer even talked to another candidate.
