LSU is ELITE, and we need elite results. These are the facts.

There's a narrative out there summarized by the following:
-LSU should be happy with it's current success as it's the best we've seen
-LSU was nothing before Saban, so we should be thankful for what Miles has been able to accomplish and sustain
-LSU should look at the 90's as to what could happen if we make the wrong move
-LSU football historically has been good but not great. Striving to be like the Bama's of the world is unrealistic.
-LSU can't compete with the likes of Bama and Saban, we should be happy with an occasional run at the SEC.
Most of these were true at one time, but the facts don't support that narrative anymore.
These are the facts:
1. Money: Currently LSU's athletic department is ranked 6th in revenue right behind Ohio State and just in front of Oklahoma. We are 2nd in the SEC behind Bama. There's a common theme with the top 5 or 6 schools (Oregon being the outlier and an anomaly due to Phil Night and Nike). All of these schools are considered the "blue bloods" of college football. These are the historical powerhouses.
Currently we have comparable resources to all of these schools. Money, facilities, and resources are not an issue at LSU.
2. Recruiting: Great programs have great recruiting. There's no getting around it, you need great players to be great. It's not a secret that LSU has a recruiting advantage due to being in a fertile recruiting area with no in state competition.
Recruiting is not an issue at LSU.
3. Coaching: this is where money and recruiting come together to form a powerhouse. Currently our coaching is simply not utilizing the resources available to be elite. This has to change.
Miles stays for next year? Fine. But he must compete for a championship. If he doesn't he HAS to be gone. We have what it takes to compete with Bama. We just need to utilize it properly.
So many people are terrified of falling back into the 90's that it's clouding their logic. LSU is an elite athletic program, we need elite results.

My favorite is these old as frick douchebags acting like because they lived through the 90s as an adult, we should be thankful for what we have despite elevating our program and winning 2 national titles.
Let's just do all we can to back to a less successful time.

I would argue that LSU is no longer elite.

If you fire your long time successful head coach for no actual good reason other than impatience, enjoy being Texas, which has become the fricking speed bump of the Big 12.
Texas had similar delusions about being special and having enough money and resources to power its way back to being "elite."
Watching them get hammered by putrid Iowa State sure was special. They'll also get to enjoy being elite enough that they'll be watching all of the bowl games on fricking TV because they can't cobble together enough wins to actually play in one.
They'll suck even worse when they fire Charlie Strong next week so that they can take a second try at sucking off Saban. Their recruits will abandon them, and they'll be stuck with bullshite at HC because they have zero fricking patience and demand results now, and no coach on earth has a hard-on for that.
Be elite. Fire our coach and then start bitching at the next guy when he can't beat Saban.

Agree. I started going to LSU games in 1972. Me and all my siblings are LSU graduates. This remember the 90's BS has to stop. All of your points are valid. LSU has the resources and recruiting base to be a top 10 team every year. We should not accept playing second fiddle to BAMA. I hope I am wrong but I don't see any of our current problems being fixed without a coaching change.

What are the elite programs? I assume elite would be the top 10 out of 200.
Name them. What are top ten programs better than LSU over the Les Miles era?

Where do you think LSU ranks in teams with the most W's from 2005 - 2014?
Posted on 11/29/15 at 6:57 pm to rintintin
Well, we certainly aren't going to get and keep elite talent if prospects see LSU as having no confidence in Les Miles from the top on down. That will and is already causing attrition in recruiting. Negative actions produce negative results.

To the 5 people who downvoted the OP, you're nothing but a bunch of delusional losers. You're most likely a failure in life who has no sense of responsibility or accountability. You are a loser.
Great post OP, spot on!

LSU isn't elite - Miles is elite.
Saban had ONE season with more than 10 wins in 5 years. Miles had FIVE seasons with more than 10 wins in 11 years.
Saban AVERAGED 3.2 losses while at LSU. People want to run Miles out of town for 3 losses.
People bitch about Miles' record "lately" - in the past 5 years he is 49-15. In Saban's 5 years he was 48-16.
LSU fans are delirious.

I love all these "facts" threads that are opinions

May be you are over estimating LSU's status?
