Watching the offense, I'm convinced Reke will go off when he returns!

This offense just sets up perfectly for his style of play. If he can make a good % of his lay ups and Ryno continues to look like the old Ryno then he will easily avg 20+pts with good assist #s.

Tyreke will taking away shots from guys who need it most (Ryno and AD).
I say keep Ish starting and have reke run the 2nd unit so he can stay in attack mode.

I know it's fun to get behind an underdog like Ish, but let's not go crazy. Between actual assists and "Kobe" assists, Tyreke fed AD more than anyone last season.

Reke has no issues passing to the open man. He was programmed to be instant offense but he can be a good facilitator as well. I don't think he is selfish at all when it comes to scoring.

This is the worst idea I've heard in a while
ETA: Ish should barely see the floor if Reke is back and Jrue is playing.

I'm not sure you're talking about Tyreke Evans.

Reke had a stretch last season when he a avg'd double digit assists. He can do it.

On a related topic, and it has been brought up before, but why not Jrue as SG? I saw some comments from last night about how Ish ran the offense like it's supposed to be run and Jrue is too slow and methodical. Why is everyone assuming that the long term vision doesn't include Tyreke and Jrue on the court at the same time? Demps tried to move Gordon both before and after he signed Tyreke. I think Tyreke is going to go HAM with the space Gentry's offense creates, that means Jrue doesn't have to run the offense. He's well suited to being a secondary creator capable of putting up 20/10 when needed but can affect a game just as much making the other team's star guard have an inefficient night.

I agree. Tyreke is best with the ball in his hands. I've said it many times, he's a matchup nightmare. Just have to deal with his occasional bully ball stuff.

Ish can get to the basket at will but he doesn't have the size/strength to finish. Tyreke is going to have a field day.

I think their best lineup will be:
Davis
Anderson
Pondexter
Evans
Holiday
It has plenty of length defensively, and if Pondexter keeps his shooting rate from last season he isn't a (large) drop off offensively from Gordon.

Ish looks a LOT better than he did in the first few games. Last night he was very good and went off for 17/13. He finished when he needed to at the basket, hit a CRITICAL 3 when he needed to, and had a masterful drive to the basket with a kickout to Gordon for a wide open 3 that sealed the game for us. Ish and AD were more in sync in the second half than I've seen with any of our other guards. They were playing off each other like they were mind-readers.
I'd rather see Ish still in the game and Reke at small forward.

Ish Smith is a homeless man's Tyreke. You can't put him and Tyreke on the court together, because you would have a serious lack of shooting on the court. Neither of them are very good without the ball in their hands.

People are blinded by Ish because we suck right now and he just had a career game versus 2 PGs that are not good defenders.
Can he be an asset to us in certain situations versus certain teams for minutes off the bench? Yes, absolutely.
But dude is just not as good as last night indicated. He won't see the court a lot when we are healthy.

yes you will
pels will have 5 guards to rotate thru 3 guard lineups which is clearly when they are most effective on offense. Douglas is the one who won't see the court and may get waived
Evans, holiday, Gordon, cole & smith will all play substantial minutes as part of 2 PG sets. I agree with OP that when Evans finds his groove he is going to be very good in this system

Has nothing to do with being blinded by a one-off performance - he has been very consistent and has noticeably progressed. He has gone from being afraid to shoot in the lane to knowing when to shoot and when to kick it out. I'm betting that most bashing him have not really watched more than a couple games.

my biggest question is that it should not be surprising based on last year that the pels score most effectively out of a 3 guard set...so why in hell did they re-sign ajinca? Could have kept whitney or signed another minimum big
i understand asik to some extent, but the ajinca contract looks like a straight up mistake. He has shown nothing that would lead you to believe he can be a net positive on the floor
surely they'd have asked gentry if he wanted him?

It's something that makes a lot of sense.
Jrue can easily guard the best guard while hitting open shots that tyreke and even AD create.
The Jrue/Reke lineup did very well in the stats I've seen.

I agree. Although everyone is speaking on the topic of offensive production, Reke will bring better D than Ish because he will match up well to more players than the little man. Reke will receive the most PT.

Eh, that's a bit generous- he's a good passer, but tries to be a hero at times. I think he will be a good fit in this offense, but I see a couple of potential issues.
1- He likes to pound the ball. Holiday has a similar problem. This offense needs the ball to move. If it sticks, things get stale in a hurry.
2- The Pels don't offensive rebound the way they did under Monty. Now, may be a chicken/egg thing with Evans out. May be the spacing Gentry asks for compared to what Monty did. May be an energy thing with Davis/Anderson asked to play so many minutes and carry larger loads. But the Kobe assists are something to keep an eye on when he comes back.

I think Ajinca was resigned mainly for salary matching purposes in a trade. $5M ain't a lot, but it opens some doors that minimum salaries like Babbitt etc can't.
He's got some skills on offense, but he's just so slow and clumsy. I think he is a worse fit for an uptempo team than Asik.
