Few highlights from the article

quote:
Dear Mr. Newton,
Congratulations on your win in Nashville today. Our team played well, but yours played better. Kudos to the Panthers organization.
That game happened to be my nine year old daughter’s first live NFL experience. She was surprised to see so many Panthers’ fans sitting in our section of the stadium; that doesn’t happen much at fourth grade football games. And she was excited we were near the end zone, so we would be close to the “action,” particularly in the second half.
quote:
Because of where we sat, we had a close up view of your conduct in the fourth quarter. The chest puffs. The pelvic thrusts. The arrogant struts and the ‘in your face’ taunting of both the Titans’ players and fans. We saw it all.
I refuse to believe you don’t realize you are a role model. You are paid millions of dollars every week to play hard and be a leader. In the off season you’re expected to make appearances, support charities, and inspire young kids to pursue your sport and all sports. With everything the NFL has gone through in recent years, I’m confident they have advised that you are, by virtue of your position and career choice, a role model.
And because you are a role model, your behavior brought out like behavior in the stands. Some of the Panthers fans in our section began taunting the hometown fans. Many Titans fans booed you, a few offering instructive, but not necessarily family friendly, suggestions as to how you might change your behavior.
quote:
My daughter sensed the change immediately – and started asking questions. Won’t he get in trouble for doing that? Is he trying to make people mad? Do you think he knows he looks like a spoiled brat?
I didn’t have great answers for her, and honestly, in an effort to minimize your negative impact and what was otherwise a really fun day, I redirected her attention to the cheerleaders and mascot.
I could tell she was still thinking about it as we boarded a shuttle back to our car. “I guess he doesn’t have kids or a Mom at home watching the game,” she added.

I chuckled heartily after he did that dance.
It was kind of awesome.

She must be an LSU fan. Only LSU fans hate Cam.

Its stuff like this makes me like Cam.

This sounds extremely believable

So we got a league full of guys beating up their women and a guy who likes to showboat and is an off the field great guy is the target of hate
Her daughter will most likely also grow up to be like many other chicks who chase showboating guys (not to mention an NFL player).

And apparently he's personally responsible for the behavior of not just Carolina fans but Titan fans as well.
ETA: This lady would've really shite if she watched NFL celebrations pre-2006.

He realizes it and does some great things off the field. Also, love the ball thing after a td
Yea, it makes you mad when he does it against your team. But like he said, if you don't like it, stop it
Maybe she should raise her kid to be less of a pussy than she is

I'll say this, Cam has a point. He said that if opposing fans don't want to see him celebrate, their teams should try harder at not letting him score. I completely agree with him.
HOWEVER, he's an a-hole on the field. He's annoying. He's a prick. He's really just a goddamn dick. He's the new Terrell Owens when it comes to getting under fans' skin. I wouldn't mind it if that Titans player would have knocked his block off in the endzone for being such an annoying little douche.
But, still, he's right. Try harder at not letting him score.

If these parents don't like what the NFL players are doing, then teach your kids not to do it. Cam or any other NFL player doesn't owe you shite. Watch them play or don't. If you do watch, just know that it is ripe with bravado and showmanship and you will never change that.
I wish these "open letters" would die already.

Sooooo many lies in that letter.
Starting with:
To me, it looked like one of the few instances in football where the player actually showed he was having fun.
Starting with:

Our team played well

I don’t know about your family life Mr. Newton, but I think I’m safe in saying thousands of kids watch you every week. You have amazing talent and an incredible platform to be a role model for them. Unfortunately, what you modeled for them today was egotism, arrogance and poor sportsmanship.

Idgas how salty y'all think I'm being, he looks like a damn loser in that gif. What the hell is he doing?
ETA: I don't care about him dancing or being arrogant. I think whatever interpretive dance move thing he is doing at people in the gif is lame as frick.

A 9 year old made this reasoning?
