Florida beats Bama in the SEC championship game. Florida then gets a playoff spot and has only one loss which was to LSU. LSU wins the rest of their games and then we have an argument on our hands because we beat them head to head. Florida would finish 12-1 and LSU would finish 10-1. Back in the 2011 season, Bama was awarded a rematch with us and the committee determined LSU and Bama were the 2 best teams in the country. Now with 4 teams in the picture, I have a feeling we would still get screwed. Thoughts?

It was written in stone before football was even invented that BAMA was the only team that would be given a Mulligan.

To me, the only way the 4 team final works is if you use the entire year as the playoffs. In other words, you have to win your way to the final 4 - it is not who is best it is who played best. Each of the 4 teams should have a convincing argument as to why they should be #1. So, no one loss teams should be in the final 4 until all undefeated teams (having played respectable competition) are out.

Yes, the 4 team final sucks.

I think 8 is a good number
Power 5 champs automatically and 3 at larges

Let the committee seed them how they like.

This is why, in 2 years, the field will expand to 8 teams, under intense pressure from teams, fans, and network$$$.

It happened in basketball several times over the decades.

Remember, it wasn't that long ago that the powers that controlled this event (BCS) were expressly opposed to a playoff at all.....

Head-to-head is a tie-breaker. Florida and LSU won't be tied in anything in this scenario.

Four teams is plenty. We have a fair chance to win the SEC West every year, which means we have a fair chance to win the SEC every year. There won't be a 2004 Auburn team again.

Even if we don't win the SEC West, it's not crazy that we might still have a chance in most years.

I don't think we need to replay the same games, and I think it's ridiculous to tell someone to play 13 games and even if they win all of them that they have to now win three more.

A one loss SEC team is more deserving most of the time than a conference champ in another conference. Not everyone is on the same playing level. Norte Dame is independent and controls their schedule and not every conference has a championship game. 4 team playoffs do not work in any other sport so why should in work in the most popular most in college athletics?

Then go with your gut and don't start a thread.

LSU is not Bama. Our losses count and they hurt. LSU's standard is to win the SECW, SECCG, and do it with a tough schedule.

All Bama has to do is finish third in the SEC and beat one ranked team. And that standard was set when there was a two team "playoff". LOL

Get over it and know your place.

In 2011 Bama was the best team. The BCD was set up to match the two best teams in the championship game. Bama proved they were better in the dome. LSU fans need to accept that.

I don't have anything witty/funny to open this so I'll just start:

quote:

Florida beats Bama in the SEC championship game.

Not likely. Bama would be jacked as hell for this game and Derrick Henry would just run a train over the Gators, and if that didn't work Riddley and the other guy they have at receiver would make enough plays along with the Bama D to win the game. Bama represents SEC in the Playoff.

hypothetically if Florida beats Bama:
quote:

Florida then gets a playoff spot and has only one loss which was to LSU. LSU wins the rest of their games and then we have an argument on our hands because we beat them head to head.

Florida goes and is the only SEC representative in the CFP. LSU gets left out having not gone to the conference championship game, also having not won their division. Yes, we beat Florida head-to-head, but we still lost to Bama, whom Florida beat to win the conference.

quote:

Back in the 2011 season, Bama was awarded a rematch with us and the committee determined LSU and Bama were the 2 best teams in the country

there was no committee in 2011. it was still the BCS system and the voters somehow gifted Bama a rematch because they thought that BigXII, B1G10, Pac10, and ACC conference champs all were somehow not worthy to play LSU.

either way...if we win out and Bama doesn't lose, we are left out. there is no possibility for a reverse 2011 scenario. The CFP Committee has seen that happen once and they won't let it happen again.

Bottome line, the Playoff needs to be expanded to 8 teams.

This is why the playoff was created. To weaken the SEC. If you run the computer rankings every year, 8 SEC teams are in the top 25. They can't have that kind of domination, because no one else "gets a chance".
Having a 4 team playoff limits the SEC to one team having a shot, instead of 3 like 4 years ago with the BCS. The 4 team playoff is basically affirmative action for the rest of the conferences.

look, the 4 team playoff is better than the 2-team BCS championship gaMe, which was better than the poll system.

When the playoff expands to 8 teams (which it absolutely will do), then it will be just about perfect. 5 conference champs get automatic bids and 3 at-large teams. Maybe even have a play-in round for the "other" conference champs.

Arguing about who should be the 8/9 seed is much less painful than 4/5.
