Yes I realize we still have a lot to play for starting with Arkansas this week BUT...

should we consider playing a game the week before the Gumps in the future? A bye week before hasn't seemed to do us any favors in recent history. In fact, we seem to come out flat and beat ourselves with mental errors. I understand that in theory it gives us an extra week to get healthy and prepare schematically...but in practice it has seemed to do the opposite and kill momentum. Maybe I'm overreacting, what do you guys think?

I'm thinking that LSU put a cupcake there to keep in rhythm without getting too beat up.

I think part of the problem may not be our bye week but theirs. They are always off the week before and come out playing really well. I don't like seeing saban after their by every year.

A bye week for LSU allows players to heal. That is the ONLY advantage it gives LSU.

A bye week for Alabama allows players to heal, coaches extra time to analyze weaknesses, extra time to discover tendencies and extra time to develop a good game plan.

we can't control theirs. But it sure isn't helping us. We need a rent a win game before them.

Face it. Until further notice Alabama is an auto-loss.
We should use it for Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida, etc.

Reposting what I said in another thread:

I actually think we'd benefit more from having our bye after Bama. I don't really understand the thought on having it the week before. You know it's going to the most physical game of the year and will be beat up afterwards regardless whether you win or lose. And having to go right into another game with the weighing on the team especially after a loss never seems to work out well.
I also think you can have too much time to just sit and stew over Alabama. We news to start treating it like any other game instead of this monster we can't overcome.

I'd like to see us not play them in Nov anymore. We always get their best.

I was having the same discussion with my brother in law after the game. I would think afterwards makes more sense.

Given Satan an extra week to prepare is bad for everyone on the planet except for maybe Urban Myers.

Yeah , I don't want to see an SEC opponent the week before Alabama, but I think an Eastern Michigan caliber team the week before could be more beneficial than a bye week to keep the momentum building.

Totally agree with everything in this post. I think we'd greatly benefit from the bye being the week after.

saban used to be pretty terrible after bye weeks. think it has more positive than negative effect on both teams

I don't like it either, but unfortunately playing the game earlier in the season would lesson the ''playoff implications'' which would get less TV ratings. Ole Piss beat a different team than we saw on Saturday. Sucks for us.

The week after means we play 8-9 straight games before a break. Putting a cupcake the week before bama doesn't do much for momentum and if bama is off it just gives him more film to look at. It's not our bye week that's hurting us. It's bama's.

I think we should take the by week AFTER the Bama game.
