Just saved enough money to live on a budget for a couple months while I find a job. Splitting rent with a couple other guys for the time being.

If you follow OPs advice, and KYS would make you happy, then don't think about it and just do it!

Weren't you married? Did you get a divorce or something?

My advice to you: quit telling people what to do with their lives.
Some of us are miserable and we're okay with it because we're adults who don't get all whiny about not seeing mountains everyday.

You can't run from life's issues and problems.

No wonder you were depressed.

Happily married. Wife is a teacher and will finish up the school year before coming up in May.

Good to hear. I was afraid I'd missed a horrible scenario. Good luck to you.

I'm not running from anything, and wouldn't suggest anyone else run from problems either. I just decided I wasn't happy with the direction my life was going - and decided to make a change. It would have been a lot easier to stay stuck in the old routine. A lot more rewarding to pursue goals and dreams.

Awesome photos - what kind of post processing do you do?
I am just now sorting thru the 4 summers I spent touring the west on my motorcycle. Great experience and just cycling thru the photos brings it all back so clearly.

I don't know why some of you think he is running from anything. It's pretty logical that if you are stuck in a dead end job and aren't challenged in life to make a change. That can be as little as finding a new job to as major as making a new beginning for yourself in a new area.
I have been considering doing the same thing as OP minus the job part. I can run my business from anywhere and I have considered living in various places just for the experiences of doing so. It wouldn't be about running but rather to gain new perspectives and enjoy new things.

The pics in the OP aren't mine. The pics on page 3 were just uploaded directly to my photobucket app and URL pasted here.
Post those pics when you get the time!

Great scenery. Admittedly, far superior to Louisiana.
However, a lot of us have deep roots here that we value greatly; close family, friends, multiple generations of family at LSU, successful careers, etc.
Those things, to many of us, matter more than scenery.

No doubt! I totally get it. It all boils down to pursuing what makes you truly happy. For a lot of people, being near family and maintaining a certain career path is what makes them click. That's just as awesome.
Whatever that looks like for each individual, pursue it.
