As a society we are looking at Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI) all wrong. For example, the most common sentiment is that ETI will come in the form of organic material. I don’t think that is valid whatsoever. Just look at our own Type 0 civilization. We are already developing some of the most advanced AI we could possibly imagine, with an AI recently becoming the first to show self-awareness. Wouldn’t it logically conclude that if as a Type 0 civilization we are developing extremely advanced forms of AI at such a basic stage, that a Type I or definitely a Type II would be completely dominated by AI?

The most common way to classify civilizations based on the Kardashev scale is also inherent faulty. We are obsessed with harnessing energy, because our entire existence depends on it. What is to say that advanced forms of ETI probably a Type III or greater would even be reliant on energy sources that we know to exist today? Zoltán Galántai alluded to this when he said there may be multi-universal ETI, but we could not detect them because their workings would be indistinguishable from nature. This may be the most logical conclusion of them all. There is an advanced ETI that is so powerful that we cannot distinguish their existence from nature and any and all organic life is some sort of experiment possibly because the AI running the “simulation” is so far removed from such simple life forms they are trying to understand their own beginnings.

Never thought about it that way

Hope you're ready for some alien denial responses bro.

See, this is very plausible but it sucks to me. I do feel that AI will always seek dominance, and will eventually try and take over. I feel we should abandon AI all together.
What if it takes AI to become a type I civilization (we are like a Type 0.6 or 0.8 more than a 0)?

In a way I want us to find alien, in another way I hope we never do.

People who emphatically deny aliens exist anywhere in the universe are idiots.

There are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on the entire planet. If every star has an average of 2-3 planets, the law of averages should say there are at least a Billion other planets with life.

The issue is space and distance. For instance, if that IS a Dyson sphere that was found last week, the light is 1500 years old, and it means that the sphere was built around the time Emperor Anastasius was in power.

1500 years is a long time and we consider that "close"

There is a word for this: God.

Not only that, but people see their craft all the time. Many report contact with them on a regular basis.

I don't think any reasonable person can deny that they are here, living among us, and probably in control of the planet's governments.

I call bullshite, do you have a link?

The best "strong AI" we have is a total joke. A machine passed the Turing test for the first time ever the other day but only because it was programmed to start by claiming to be a 9 yr old who doesn't speak English as his first language lol. Artificial intelligence isn't even known to be possible at this point.

LINK

It isn't complete self-awareness but nonetheless limited self-awareness.

the emphatic denial or acceptance of alien life is ludicrous. The fact is, we just don't know. Because the universe is so expansive, it is probable that there is something out there, but we just don't know.

I've long believed that any spacefaring race will have to be intelligent machines. Space is just too hostile an environment for biologics.

In addition to that, machines that are small enough to still be useful can be much more easily accelerated to the kinds of velocities interstellar travel requires.

There are only 3 possible scenarios:

1. Almost every civilization, like ours, goes extinct before reaching technological maturity (depressing)

2. Almost every tech mature civilization lacks interest in building a Matrix

2. Almost all people with our kind of experience are in a Matrix

Kurzweil has some really interesting stuff on exactly this topic. Google him.

Thing is, if machines were the way it would go, then you would think the math would dictate the machines would already be here since they would be able to send billions of themselves into every direction maybe a billion years ago.

That's why the question, "Where is everybody?" Holds weight.

Of all the things going on in the world today, this is the least important topic.
