Supposedly they've extended office hours to 8pm and will answer calls from 8am - 8pm Saturday and Sunday per this.
Except when you call right now, it says to call back during regular business hours.

Seriously, there is gross incompetence at multiple levels of government if you are going to send out 1.2 million letters for a State with a population of 4 million and not think it through. On a scale that large, multiple people are responsible and should suffer consequences for this.
It's absolutely absurd. Most of this crap is nit picky BS, and they don't even have enough support to handle the calls.

Might try calling now. I called about 5:20 and went straight to someone after selecting option 3.

I just got through to someone.
Finally.. So yeah keep trying.
This is so frustrating. We took our insurance off while our car was broke down and being repaired. We didn't even know that was what the insurance was doing when they recommended we do a "storage." The car repair took much quicker than we thought and we took our vehicle out of "storage" and put back on our insurance within 3 days. Never drove it without insurance, and our insurance never lapsed.
We were not aware of having to file a "statement of non use" to protect from this fee being sent out to us. Definitely know this know.. but they won't let us out of this $125 fee. Don't have that kind of money to just pay in one lump sum atm.. Oh well.

You people who think you're going to weasel out of those red light camera or speed camera tickets, take heed.
I thought any dumbass knew to get the plates out of your name when you sell a vehicle.
It's doubly hilarious to read how many people are getting these notices at their parents' house.
Dumbasses, indeed.

My dad received two red light tickets in the mail, yet he was not even driving the vehicle.. He was in the hospital. It was a worker of his using the vehicle to run around errands for him.
No where on the camera ticket can you tell the identity of the person driving. Not even with all the angles of photos, but we know for a fact he was not responsible because he was having surgery and in the hospital during the time.. and his worker had his van at the time..
We still paid the tickets since it had him as responsible, but it's crap.
Some courts do not even recognize these camera tickets because they are not signed for, like you would normally a traffic ticket when being pulled over.. where the actual driver is responsible.. So basically they are just an intimidation to pay.. but that the courts won't technically hold you responsible.. However, no doubt Louisiana is still different than most places..
I guess we could have appealed the tickets, but we really don't have time or energy on his part to devote to this..

No different than pappy getting a parking ticket when junior borrowed the car. You mad about that, too?
See, this is what makes my head hurt, when people don't know the difference between a criminal charge and a civil charge.
You can go to jail on a criminal charge. You sign a promise to appear in lieu of being arrested and taken before a judge.
You don't go to jail on civil charges, so none of that is necessary.
You also aren't constitutionally guaranteed to face your accuser in civil matters, only criminal. Read the amendment. "In all criminal prosecutions..."
Have a nice weekend.

When someone has to pay the $125 fee needlessly:
The next time some organization asks for a donation, tell them you had to pay the Louisiana tag penalty fee and can no longer afford to donate to charity.
See if the non-profits complain to the Governor!

you want to compare being responsible for a parking violation to a driving violation?
i understand what you are trying to say though.. i just don't find the two as comparable. i think for moving violations it needs to be 100% on the actual driver, period. this is just my opinion though. no need to get whatever. lol

Yeah, to resolve it you pay the fine. The media did a story a while back about how DPS has millions in uncollected fines and made them look bad, so this is the result.
Thanks media

Truly retarded. I see on the website that they are open on weekends, so I call and the stupid recording says call during regular business hours.
Seriously, the most inept piece of shite state in the country. fricking worthless motherfrickers.

To confirm what the previous poster said, if you call the number, press option 3. It's the only one that works. I actually got straight through.
They told me to fill out some form that proves I registered my vehicle in Texas and it would be taken care of. No fine.
I'll believe it when I see it. Overall the woman was pleasant and admitted that this was BS.
One thing to remember for everyone, don't take out your frustration on the call center workers. This is not their fault. It's the inept retards elected to this state that started this shite, particularly that asshat Jindal.
You elect morons, this is what happens.

Update: per the OMV fines older than 10 years old will be waived. Any fine assessed within the last 18 months must be reconciled electronically. Fines older than 18 months, but younger than 10 years, can be recalled with a letter from the insurer.
Hope this helps. Mine was from 15 years ago so I am in the clear.

So how do we reconcile electronically? Even if there was no lapse in insurance we do this online? We filled out some kind of contact form and never heard back. Is there a new form to fill out or is that only if you just want to pay the fine and be done with it? I am not paying, insurance never lapsed, so I probably still need to call?
By the way, I got proof from our insurance that there was no lapse in coverage so now I just need to find a way to get this to the OMV and have them feck off.

Did you have to do anything with the OMV to clear yourself or are the 10+ year old violations automatically being waived? Thanks for the info!

Incorrect. I just talked to "Kelly" at OMV...my alleged lapse of insurance in 1998 letter is still in effect. I have to prove that I had insurance then.
Funny thing is...he stated I had Texas Insurance in Feb 1998...so if I had Texas Insurance in 1998...why did I have to have La liability insurance in April?
Of course the problem I'm having is producing paperwork from 17 years ago.

Did anyone hear any updates today ?

Papers are now reporting Edmonson at hearing claiming nearly 30,000 cases cleared, 4 million collected, $2200 refunded.
He appears to be bragging that 69% of the cases were true and actually warranted a fine. I would argue that sending notices that threaten fines, credit ratings, and revoking professional licenses with a 31% error rate should be cause for him to resign and the state to void the letters.
I started another post noting that the OMV and my state rep told me to send in a form on the disposition of the vehicle along with evidence I had. Both indicated it should help resolve the problem although my evidence is incomplete.
I encourage everyone to file the form. If you go the OMV website, they have a new feature in yellow at the top that states click here if you received a letter. The form I was asked to send is listed as an AFFIDAVIT of Vehicle Disposition now.
I submitted by certified letter a few days ago. There is still a hold on my license, but I am hoping it will clear as they work the backlog.
