This is absurd. Finally got in touch with the OMV and was told I never turned in my plates for my vehicle when I registered in a new state. I mentioned to the woman that I turned in the plates to the DMV shortly after. She said that I needed to have documentation from that transfer. Who keeps stuff like that? One of the vehicles I don't even own anymore.
I have to pay $250 due to incompetence at the dmv. Glad I will never move back to that POS state.

I live in SC. My dad offered to take care of it for me. I called the county and they emailed me property tax receipts from 2000 - 2002 which should prove the car was registered in another state at the time. I'm hoping that clears it up.
Jindal is such a frick.

What if I don't have to pay state income tax anymore? Can I just tell them to frick off?

I'm wondering the same thing.

It's like the State had a PR team sit around and think, "How can we make people hate state gov even more?" We've already shot their dogs. Maybe a a DMV shakedown? Let's go for it.

More like Jindal bankrupted the state and needs money in the most frick-wad-iest way possible.

I feel bad for people who have to live in a shitty state that tries to nickel and dime every time you fart.

I got one in last year when I changed insurance carriers. Had to bring proof of insurance to the OMV and they took care of it. Didn't have to pay anything.

The letter states this is a second notice. They claim that a previous letter was sent to my parents. Therefore you are required to pay a minimum fine of $125 per vehicle.
My parents claim that they never received a previous letter from the state.

If you don't pay this (or clear it up), your current state will eventually find out. States do share this info, albeit very slowly. Eventually they will get a code in their system and you won't be able to renew or get a new license in your state until it's cleared in LA. Happened to me from an old fine in TX last time I went to renew my LA license. They didn't know what it was for only a code and a number to call in TX. Luckily it was less than $100 I owed to TX, so rather than spend time on it I paid it and it was cleared. Had to be at least 2 years old of whatever fine it was.

Magoo. Mine says the same thing and I never received the first letter they claim was sent to me either. When I asked the OMV about that, he rudely told me that their records indicate it was sent so I am responsible for the debt of $525, since this was from 2012. This is such a petty way to squeeze a buck out of people.

Why do I get the feeling this is going to end up with a lawsuit and LA government getting owned?

We received a letter too. It's from 2008 and doesn't even reference what vehicle it is..just says "Ford". We sold and bought a Ford that year. Guessing it's referring to the one we sold.
Such a pain in the arse. What a terribly run system.

I got one recently saying I didn't even have insurance, and the effective date was about a year ago when I switched insurance. Either GEICO fricked up, or the DMV did, but basically I've been paying for insurance for the past year without it even being recognized by the state.
To get it resolved I went to one of those expediated places because I wanted nothing to do with the dmv, and put them on the phone with GEICO. It was cleared up and I paid nothing.
Still pissed people can't do their jobs correctly though.

quote:same here. Letter to my parents claiming a "second notice". bullshite complete money grab by the state. I think it's down to $125 but I'm not sure what that's for.

I got one in my PO Box for a guy named Gary C. Smith about his DODG. Apparently, he was mailed a previous notice dated... Are you ready?
