Thru 5 games:

Godchaux 6-solos, 5-tackles for loss (21 yds) and 3 sacks (17yds)
Lacouture 1-solo, 0-tackles for loss, and 0 sacks

I watch #91 on almost every snap and I just don't see what is keeping him at starter over Gilmore, Herron, or Thomas.

Godchaux and Gilmore should be starters.

TBH I think LaCouture is the space eater. He should have more than one tackle, but he occupies blocks. If you get Godchaux 1 on 1 with someone it's over.

Is Thomas even around anymore? Has he taken the field lately?

Was sure hoping he would get around to big time play again.

That can't be right?? Given, I was watching him hard against USCe and he didn't do much of anything. Like someone said, he may just be a big body...

yeah

he has never been a disruptive force on the inside, but he hold the blocks and closes gaps well

Sadly, Godchaux has drawn most double teams from what I've seen.

It's alright to have a space eater to make your playmakers make plays. Sometimes when you have two guys who want to make plays (Ego and Freak) you lose gap containment and people get one one one with your white 210 lb MLB haha. But no, in all seriousness it's ok to have a guy like LaCotoure to eat blocks for Godchaux. But I agree Gilmore and Herron should get more snaps than they do

Gilmore had a play Saturday that should have resulted in a loss of yards. It was a misdirection and he didn't bite. But he became lazy and didn't even try to pursue the QB who proceeded to run for 13 yards.

This is a piss poor stat for a DT.

Is he keeping a blocker off of a LB? A bad DLine is one that lets the OL get to the LB to block them. Not all DT are going to have large tackle numbers. Many will play a key role in allowing others to get the tackle.

This is such a dumb thread.

A) If you're watching Lac every play, that's sad
B) To say your stats are skewed and misleading is an understatement. Godchaux is going to be an elite DT by next season. Very possible All-American. Getting that many tackle for losses and solo tackles for a DT is an impressive feat.
C) Lac has 1 less tackle than Godchaux...1. 18 tackles compared to 17. Godchaux and Lac are responsible for Beck and Debo being able to run free and rack up tackles. Godchaux is more talented so naturally will have more "impact" plays, but Godchaux does his job and does it well. Not to mention it is well documented that he is one of the main leaders of the defense.

These are his real stats, you didn't focus on the 16 assisted.

Total tackles he has one less than Godchaux.

If I'm Miles I want big mfers in the middle to eat blockers. You have fast DEs and LBs that thrive in one-on-one.

I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but after watching him this season he simply gets blocked or holds up a blocker...very little penetration if any. I am hoping he breaks out soon.

They play almost every 3rd series, both have improved a lot, but are still not there in terms of starting. Gilmore can hold his own, but Lacouture is clearly better. Herron gets destroyed by double teams, but is damn good at penetrating and winning one-on-one battles. Both guys are making progress, which is what we need from them.
