Has anyone ever felt this low before regarding the state of US soccer?

Olympics qualifying is now a mess, and we fail to qualify for the confed cup. 5 years into this coach's tenure we don't have an identity and we seem worse off than where we started. Mexico has a new coach for a few weeks and basically runs us off the field. Just disgusted right now. Lowest of the low.

Srsly? This is fricking ridiculous if you aren't trolling

1998 for sure. But there was the greatest generation of talent coming up right behind that failure, and those guys carried us to our highest moments as a soccer nation 4 years later.
I don't know if people realize just how rare the Donovans and Beasleys of 1999 are in the US pipeline. Even peak Onyewu.

post-98, this may be the lowest point though

This is nothing. 1998 was bad. Now if we played like we had in our previous couple of games I feel like crap, but we still play well and improved. Plus our youth coming up is great.

It could be the worst since 2006.
I miss Landon

I agree, and I'm not seeing that much talent coming up like in 1999.

we have some young midefield studs coming through
our defense? i don't think we have anybody except maybe CCV
attackers/wingers? depths of hell

Maybe Miazga? For attackers, Wood, Morris, and the theoretical idea of Julian Green?
Posted on 10/10/15 at 11:24 pm to Keys Open Doors
julian green is like the LSU secret playbook
Posted on 10/10/15 at 11:26 pm to SlowFlowPro
Julian Green is quarterback Russell Shepard.

Looking through the US line-ups for the younger teams, I think the guys I'd expect to see in the future are
Bobby Wood
DeAndre Yedlin
Matt Miazga
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Emerson Hyndman
WIll Trapp
Jordan Morris
Gedion Zelalem
Maki Tall
Jerome Kieswetter
Julian Green
Rubio Rubin
Jose Villareal
Benji Goya
Alejandro Guido
Luis Gil
Marc Pelosi
Some of those guys look like they've already peaked, and I don't just mean Julian Green.

whoa now slow down
at least the secret playbook actually existed (it seriously did. we only ran like 1/3 of our playbook in games under crowton)

Erick Palmer Brown? fricking Jueventus was willing to offer Kansas City $1 million for him. Matt Miazga, Desevio Payne who plays for Gronigen in the Eredivise, Yedlin. John Brooks is still just 23.

Jerome Kiesweitter, Rubio Rubin, Maki Tall, and Johansson all get regular playing time in top European leagues. Add in Jordan Morris who will play in Europe sooner than later and Haji Wright who had European offers before making the odd decision to play for the New York Cosmos. Jordan Siebatchue, who has scored 3 goals in Ligue 1 for Stade Reims including an equalizer against PSG, has stated that he wants to represent the US internationally. Our lack of attacking wings is a concern, but I think we have a couple guys who can be serviceable in those roles in Paul Arriola and Tommy Thompson. Potentially Bradford Jamison IV as well. You are seriously underselling our young attacking talent.

I was 9 in 1998. Sorry that I didn't follow it back then. During the course of my fandom, yes, this is probably the lowest point. I've been a hard core fan since about 2007 and apart from having to walk out of the Rose Bowl after watching the 2011 GC, this is the lowest I've felt about our senior team and our set up in general.

There's another young player. We are not lacking for young talent whatsoever. Neither of us even mentioned arguably the most talented and skilled youths we have in Christian Pulisic and Luca De La Torre.
