Nice. I liked it but I could see how it wouldn't really click with some people.

He's also a HS teacher during the day and working on his PhD in physics. I still haven't figured out why he won't just get a regular engineering job.
1. Getting a PhD is a much bigger accomplishment than any engineering salary attainment.
2. With his credentials he could move to the northeast and teach high school and make much better money.

I love when uninformed people say that. Degreed and licensed in it and have had a very successful engineering career so far (can work in any field).
they have licenses for industrial engineering????

bullshite. I know people working on PhDs in engineering and they're the laziest people at that point in their careers (compared to similar aged engineers)

Or he could just become a professor...

Then you know some PhD students that will likely not get their degrees

Yes.

I don't think anything is really hard for him. He just hasn't figured out what he wants to commit to yet

Depends what you focus on in each. There's a huge difference in a power degree in EE and a digital signal processing one.

People saying that Statics was hard must have had Carol Jacobs as a teacher. Though statics is a poor mark for degree difficulty as most engineering degrees take it.
I think the class that sets the bar is Physical Chemistry, which should actually be called Quantum Chemistry.
(Similar to how the most difficult math class I took was called "Elementary Calculus". You don't understand struggle until on of your test questions is to prove that 1>0.)
I remember my first "Particle in a Box" problem.
Most would not have passed if not for the 30-40 Pt curve J.Hop gave us.

Still don't know how I got out of p Chem with a B. Thanks Hopkins

This is terrible... son if you want troll lessons, follow LucasP. This is like the video of that blind kid playing peewee football.

Taking it out of context. I'm saying Petro Engineering is not tougher than EE. Many pretro guys will agree its one of the easier degrees compared to the other engineering programs.

Also, PeteE above ChemE and Electrical is a joke.

Yeah this guy definitely is delusional.
CE graduate with the majority of my friends graduating in PeteE and EE. PeteE's aren't paid more because they are a higher caliber of engineer.

I don't think you fully grasp the difficulty of getting a PhD in Physics. Physics, Math, and Chemistry are by far the most difficult to get a Doctorate in. Only people with truly special intellectual ability will succeed in pursuing one.

I have 2 engr degrees and own an engineering business. Some of the dumbest people I've ever met in the industry have PhD's and couldn't change a gotdamn light bulb.
Now...frick off.

Sounds like you've had some hiring issues. If you'd like to give another Ph.D. level chemical engineer a shot, I'll be available next summer to disprove your assertions.

It's apparent you love the work and aren't in it for the money. I could never knock someone for that. One downfall of government work is that most people are in it for the check and not because they like the work.

I'm assuming they're Engineering PhD's. Given your field I guess you don't often cross paths with those of Doctorates in rigorous studies.

I think the practical application of engineering makes the PhD easier to obtain. More research topics as well.
As an undergrad research assistant the group I helped with was working on designing catalysts. Real world application and practical idea.

In Petroleum right now. Based on fellow classmates, seems like ME/EE is the most difficult solely based on the curriculum. I'd put Pete somewhere in the middle-upper section, although like many have posted, you can't really understand which one is the most difficult when you only graduate with one degree...
