What the f does that even mean, you put your best player on the field.

Now Pedro is 2 for 17 lifetime against Arrieta, so maybe that has something to do with it, but don't say that stupid shite.

I'm glad he's not playing. Because somehow in a game involving the Cubs and Pirates, he would somehow hit a homerun against the Cardinals.

It means he's a terrible first baseman, which he is. I guess it makes some sense going against Arrieta.

Ignorant on the subject of Alvarez, but is his defense that bad?

Isn't he powerful too?

How the hell does putting your best defensive lineup on the field not make sense to you? It makes perfect frickin sense.

You play your best nine, not your nine best.-

Makes sense to me

I was more baffled by La Stella playing and hitting in the five hole for the Cubs.

Seems pretty self-explanatory.

Defensive stats and metrics are not the end all, but his are fricking horrific

But I see what you're saying. If he's not the best option for this one game why was he starting all year?

I assume he thinks Rodriguez's defensive edge will outweigh Pedro's offensive edge. Not sure if I agree, but Cole does generate a bunch of ground balls. And the Pirates have a very sharp analytics department, I'm sure they had a say in this. This also leaves Pedro as a prime pinch hit option when the situation calls.

He's worst defensive first baseman in baseball in the last few years with a -2.3 dWAR. He routinely drops regular throws to first, much less anything low or heaven forbid a bouncer and with Aramis Ramirez at 3rd, that is one awful infield defensively, add in Kang out as well.

You can't give away outs tonight. Arrieta doesn't give up HR's, which means Alvarez would be a solid 0/4 with 4K's tonight. His value is more in bench power late when Arrieta is out of the game as the Cubs bullpen is pretty terrible and gives up the long ball, good move IMO.

He envisioned a low scoring game where defense would matter.

Alvarez is prob the worst 1B in baseball defensively
