Traveling with Boudin

I am traveling to BR next month and want to bring a few pounds of Boudin back with me. Thinking Jerry Lee's for ease/convenience.
Suggestions how to pack it in my luggage or a carry on? I have a 6 pm flight out of MSY and will get home to a fridge in MN around midnight. Can you travel with food?

So just going to BR from MSY? If you can't make it past BR go to Ronnie's. You can get it fresh or frozen. Get some regular and some smoked and get some cracklins for the 15 minute drive from there to the airport. Closed on Sundays though.
I'm not a TSA agent.

You are going to need to check it to keep it cold. They won't let you carry on an ice chest with ice or gel packs.

Buy a small soft side ice chest. Fill with boudin and gel packs and check it

I've brought smoked sausage and boudin aboard in my carry-on backpack. They were frozen in vacuum sealed packs. I wrapped in newspaper and placed in a soft sided cooler bag.
Watched it go through the TSA x-ray machine at MSY. The operators didn't question or look at it. Was still frozen when I landed in Reno, Nevada.

My dad flies with boudin from Jerry Lee's (5 lbs. or so) from NO to Chicago every time he visits. He buys it frozen.
He just wraps it in a few paper towels, then aluminum foil, and ziplocs it up and puts in in the middle of his clothes...he's done this at least 10-15 times and its almost always still frozen.
Never had any issues at the airport

i have a soft sided ice chest, about playmate size, that i pack with boudin and sausage from Kartchner's or Juneau's. They will pack 3 links in sealed plastic, and i will freeze them or just put an ice pack in with them. I bring them to NorCal all the time in my checked bag, which is 7-8 hours of flight, then 1-3 hour drive, depending on traffic. They stay completely frozen, or cold, if not frozen.

I did this back in March - carried 5 lbs of boudin with me ato North Carolina to give as a gift.
Bought a couple of days ahead of time, purchased frozen, kept in freezer. Right before I drove to airport, put into a small soft-sided ice chest - basically the size of a large lunch bag - along with two frozen gel packs.
When I got to airport, took gel packs out and left in my car. Had it seperate from my carryon, went through security and told the TSA guy what it was. He took aside, looked through it, sent me on my way. Past security, opened up my carryon bag and put it inside there.
Flew to RDU. Saw the guy at dinner that night, gave him the whole soft sided ice chest. He took it home and told me the next morning that when he got home at 11 pm it will still very frozen.

Carry on. Just wrap it aluminum foil first and put a timer on it so you know how long it's been out of the freezer.

quote:Let's swap. I'll send you home with plenty of boudin in trade for a box of smoked Ciscos from Russ Kendall's Smoke House in Knife River. Toss in some IPA from Bauhaus Brew Lab and you've got yourself a sack of cracklins. Heck, bring me a charcuterie plate to go from Butcher and Boar while you're at it.
