Spending Wed & Thurs night down there then heading up to BR Friday & Saturday for the A&M game.
I realize the Bayou Classic is that Saturday and some people say to avoid nola altogether but Wed/Thur oughtta be fine right?
TIA

Go to the racetrack on Thursday.

You are good as long as you get out by lunchtime on Friday.

i will be in nola the entire time, but i will be with the family and we won't be going out. Maybe in the marigny.

As long as you're out by friday you'll be fine. Most of the Bayou Classic riffraff will be at work during the week...

You can still go out that weekend, just not to the quarter. Even the WD and CBD bars are fine during the classic. My birthday is always around the classic and I still go out for it.

This is the biggest load of shite I read on here. People act as if Bayou classic is the equivalent to Mardi Gras. I never ran into ONE person white or black who make plans to leave the city because of the Bayou Classic.

You must not know any restaurant owners in the city.

As long as you aren't on Canal Street, or in the FQ/CBD near canal street, you will be fine and you won't even know that the Bayou Classic is going on.

Clearly you don't get why people are leaving the city. Hint: it's not the volume of people

My family has been doing this for my whole life. This is the first year thanksgiving day won't be opening day for the fairgrounds though

Most of the stores are open Wednesday and Friday.
Thursday, the track is a great idea (we always go). We reserve seats so we have somewhere to sit and have a tv in the grandstand (it's really cheap, to reserve call track) but don't eat the dinner (which is the expensive part). Track has more than enough booze and food stands to snack on through the day. Then we go to late dinner in French quarter (where the majority of restaurants that are open for turkey day are).

Hotwire a 4 star (minimum) hotel room (preferably 4.5 star) to make sure you're okay with the humanity that will be starting to descend on the 3 stars round about then
