I'd like offensive balance as much as the next fan, however...

1980 UGA
12-0 SEC champs, Sugar Bowl, National Champs

Buck Belue
77/156 (49%)
1314 yds (110/gm)
TD/INT: 11/9

1983 Auburn
11-1 SEC Champs, Sugar Bowl

Randy Campbell
78/142 (55%)
873 yds (79/gm)
TD/INT: 7/3

Buck is a radio/TV personality here in Atlanta now. I once heard a joke on the radio:

Q: "Why did Buck cross the road?"
A: "To hand off to Herschel."

Feel like the game has evolved a little bit in 35 years.

Now give us some examples when they didn't use leather helmets.

LSU doesn't need balance, they need to be good at passing when they do it.

2004 Oklahoma Sooners

12-1, Big 12 Champs, BCSCG

Adrain Peterson, 339 rushes, 1,925 yards rushing, 15 TDs

Jason White
255-390, (65.4%)
3,204 yards
35 TD
9 INT

Oklahoma actually had the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the Heisman that year.

So you can actually be balanced and sill have a GOAT at RB

Comparing football on the 80s to today is just stupid.

Those are much better passing numbers than we are capable of.

Compare that to typical NCAA passing stats of the year. Where was it ranked?

Yes, and how many teams during that time period passed for 300 yd/game? I'll bet almost none. I bet not even half the NCAA passed for 200 yards/game in that time period.

Times have changed. Coaches realized you can score more points using a different method.

You can't win like that now. We don't have a defense that will hold opponents to 11 points per game.

If we just got 2011 AJ McCarron play with good WRs, and a dominant defense, we could kill, instead, we don't have anything close. We are giving up around 21.5 points per game, and we have yet to face a team in the top 40, let alone top 25, in scoring offense. We are averaging 95.5 passing yards on 53.2% completion, and we have yet to face a legit pass defense or legit pass rush. WRs are playing like poo too.

Great post.

23-1, averaging 91 yards, 12.5 attempts, and 6.5 completions per game. Can you imagine the 8 and 9 man boxes they were running against?!? How the hell did they do it???
