Some of you may say well the WR's have dropped ballls for Harris, guess what they didnt catch every catchable ball Jennings threw either. 4 of those drops need to be forgotten because Dural has run 4 "jet sweeps" this year that were all counted as completions.
Tell me why, despite 400 yards rushing, LSU didn't win the TOP battle? Because they were 1-6 on 3rd down because of dropped passes. And FYI - jet sweeps are NOT completions. Let's discuss about Dupre not going up on a jump ball in the end zone. Let's discuss Dural quitting on a route that should have resulted in a TD. I can't even remember which WR Harris threw the ball behind because the WR didn't read the coverage and sit on the route in the end zone. And FWIW, Harris's INT really should be considered a fumble. And how many PI calls did we force? I have no problem with the way Harris played last night.

MSU had 10 men in the box

A 75 yard TD run and a pick 6 will tend to impact that a little bit...

Anyone who knows football and offensive play design can see that the problem is not entirely Harris. It is Cameron. Look at the routes. Most plays all receivers long routes, no drag routes, no short crossing, nothing 8-10 yes down field. The long passes in the first half reminded me of Ole Miss two years ago. Lucky this time we go interference calls. The middle of the field was wide open all night because linebackers were playing the run. Just take look at teams who have successful passing, it's not all or nothing. Cameron is just as hard headed as Miles and he won't change things. Maybe what we see is all Cameron knows.

shite, hcb, you were such a jackass a couple of weeks ago, obnoxiously asserting the obviously incorrect view that Hill was as good as Fournette. Now you post the best post of the season. You're an enigma! I agree with every point you made, especially about Mett being overrated. We should have led the nation in offense in 2013.
I'll make one suggestion: that the problem might be that Miles focuses practice time on the running game. In college there's just not enough time to do both enough. Saban manages it, because he has his vaunted process that he adheres to so rigidly. Not many other coaches have managed it.

So will the short (2 yard) field we gave them for their 20-second drive and EMU's 3 turnovers.

People keep saying we don't develop quarterbacks. It's bull shite. Harris is twice the quarterback he was last year.

Expecting a great post from reading him pumping himself is like expecting something Les says during the week to happen on Saturday. You're bound to be disappointed.

It's inexplicable, I really don't think it's all on Miles thoug his stubbornness and blind loyalty is certainly part of the problem.
Yes, Miles loyally and stubbornly sticking with AJ is a big part of the problem. Had we gotten Miles out the way and played a different QB it would be more better, huh?
Where do you get this shite?
The problem yesterday is three-fold: 1) A bunch of WRs dropped easy catches; 2) Cam is trying not to show much against rent-a-wins; and 3) The players know it's a rent-a-win, and they get complacent.

If I'm being fair, I'm seeing Harris make some throws that Jennings never did last year. And, he's not having nearly as many errant throws. He hasn't turned the ball over. And, he's good in the running game (need more of this to be honest)
However, It's pretty clear that mentally, Jennings is ahead of where Harris is. The playbook they have given him is very limited. And, it looks to me like Harris is starting to try to guide the ball in downfield rather than throw it. The ball is hanging in the air and DBs are closing on the WR. That's contributing to some of the drops.
The scary truth about our passing game is that it is not developed. We won't have much of a passing game to throw at Florida (that's a legit defense) or Alabama. We aren't running anything across the middle that isn't 30 yards downfield.
The scary truth about our team is that we've looked awesome in 1 game this year...and bad in 3.

Another season without a QB. I hope Mcmillan is doing his homework.

He has under thrown almost every deep ball this season. I think he'll get to the point where he lets it rip. Hopefully the WRs learn to catch the fricking ball.

My whole concern was the game plan seemed to be "we'll throw it, but every pass is going to be a 40 yard rocket down field."
In theory you get some one on one match ups when they stack the box, but it is not something you overuse. We should have been working short/intermediate stuff to develop the full repertoire. We already know he can throw bombs.
We slung it early rather than letting Leonard eat. We also started subbing on defense early in the second with a 14 point lead. This screwed everything up in terms of building a dominant lead that would let us tinker. Instead, we had to keep bringing the starters back in throughout the entire game just to maintain a single digit lead. We are lucky someone didn't get hurt.

JJ2... Same anguished, just got kicked in the 1/9/12 nuts, "what the hell just happened" expression at times... Same strong arm... Same running ability... Same hot and cold passing...

Pretty disappointing for a thread that was supposed to be some big revelation. Just watch the games and it's very clear that Harris is better and has more upside.
That's kinda the point. Except he hasn't been all that much better.
Jennings did not deserve to get dogged as much as he did, and Harris doesn't deserve as much praise.

Since 2008 thereve been various coaches at each offensive position. The one constant is head coach and bad passing. That's your correlation. It's this dinosaur scheme that hardly no other team wants to run. Sure it's fun to say LSU is power and pro style and gets players ready for NFL etc, but it's hampering the team.
Even Bama and Stanford have more inventiveness in their offenses. TCU coach decided he wanted an offense to match his solid defense and now look, they blow teams out. But LSU just goes in the other direction, becoming ever more conservative, where every pass completion is a notable achievement, and loses to Bama every year en route to a mediocre bowl.

1) every team drops balls yet somehow still manage more than 80yds passing
2) coaches aren't hiding the playbook. This IS the playbook. This has been the playbook for years. The offense will not suddenly start using slants, crossing routes, or misdirection.
3) bullshite excuse.

The bigger problem at hand is scheme. "Lesticles" lost it after 2008 and the trickledown effect continues. Lee, JJ, mett in 2012 (with the same pieces as 2013), jennings, and harris all arrived on campus with the talent. I recall people thinking rettig was the next GOAT. These guys hardly have a chance when they are being plugged in to this mindfrick of a system that isnt tailored to them and the playmakers around them. Thats an advantage of the spread especially when the kids have been playing in it since 7th grade but i dont want to be a spread specific team, we can run power and all that good shite but our passing game is a complete farce and other than the 2013 outlier i cant see it changing. Everything is so low fricking percentage. We cant employ a screen game nor a play action element. Its extraordinary.
Our pass pro has been bad which is worse when the qb needs time to hit his guy on a low arse percentage vertical route. fricking syracuse and EMU were keyed into all of it. Harris got fricking auto sacked against cuse's 3-man rush because he had no outlet while his receivers are hauling arse downfield with no slant or crosser to turn to. Vadal and hawkins have been bad, but again, scheme.
I disagree about mett in the op, he could spin it and unfortunately it took the geniuses at the top more than a season to see it.
Imagine supplementing this rush attack with a COMPETENT passing game. We cant keep blaming the players, its a cop out for the miles maniacs who truly believe their battle captain has it all figured out.
This team has so much potential. The program has so much potential but i dont ever feel secure. The two best coaches on this staff are position coaches, the rest are recruiters or just shitty coaches. Look back at our 2007 staff and marvel at how we fell bassackwards into that title. That staff was littered with barbecue stains. Porter, mccarthy, stud, mallory, peveto, lane. And the guy at the top.
We all want to love les but this team continues to be hamstrung by THE SAME shite THAT HAS REARED ITS UGLY HEAD FOR SEVEN YEARS.
evenrually (at least i hope) you just stop caring. I love LSU football and i dont want to ever stop caring. Its not easy to jump behind THE HAT because he is so zany and wacky and wears that jacket even when its ninety seven thousand degrees so leople will say "did you see that wacky les and his goofy jacket even thoufh it was Ninety seven thousand degrees? LOL!"
Les has so much more potential as a coach. As a man he couldnt be any better. Its juat frustrating man. It just doesnt feel like any of these consistent issues will change until hes gone and i dont want to anticipate him going because i want to enjoy every game, but as the TL;DR version of this post will tell you, its getting harder and harder to enjoy.
I know critical thinking and airing frustrations is frowned upon by miles nation, but this place is, after all, called the RANT. thats all i find myself doing - ranting - when i watch these guys play.
