Smoke went twice in 5 years. Paul has gone twice in 6 years. 0-4 and 1-4. You'd think given his better talent and regular season success, he wouldn't shite the bed so often in crunch time..
Wow, if you really can't even distinguish the trajectories the program was going under the two coaches, then there's no point in anyone arguing with you. That tells me plenty about how irrational your thoughts on Maineri are. If we fired Maineri he would be hired by a top 15 program ASAP. Smoke can't even get out of I think FAU?

Results are results. He's at North Florida. Are we better now than when smoke was around? Of course! That's my point exactly. You'd think we'd have more to show for it.
PM has better teams. Better players. But can barely do better than smoke. Why is that?

We have plenty to show for it. I enjoy SEC titles, SEC tournament titles, consistent 50 win seasons, and even a national title that Smoke couldn't give us.
I get your frustration in Omaha, sure. It's now like I felt our last two trips were "mission accomplished", but I'm just pointing out that 99% of college baseball would kill for our consistency.eta: that includes Texas, USC, Fullerton, Florida State, Mississippi State, UNC, just to name a few. there are of course many others.
Also I would just encourage you to not be such a negatiger, because Maineri is never going to be on the hot seat, nor should he be. I'm not denying there are 3-5 coaches such as Mcdonnell and Corbin that I might prefer, but they'd never come here if we were dumb enough to fire Maineri anyways

I'll also add that my ole miss friends laugh their asses off at how stupid our fans sound at times. I hate to break it to some but Alex Box is not in a league of its own.
Ole Miss has Swayze, a phenomenal baseball atmosphere, a top 5 budget, badass uniforms, and extremely similar selling points from a university standpoint (celebrity status, beautiful campus, etc.). Yet they would KILL for someone like Maineri to bring that consistency. Just ask them how hard it is to even get to Omaha. Spare me the "They are ole miss" bs because they have very comparable resources to us, with much less production

Forgive me for not lowering my standards. I liked it better when no one cared about SEC titles because we were winning national ones.
What does PM do now that makes him unfirable? Recruits get told about the facilities, the fans, the exposure, and learning to pitch from Alan Dunn. What does he do during games that sets him apart? Sets the lineup? Decides when to bunt? Steal? Change pitcher? Many would say his biggest weaknesses. He's an arse in locker room. He holds grudges against players. losses are all about "we" while wins are about "I". Pay attention to his press conferences.

Those days were great, but there was also a time when only 3 SEC teams actually gave a damn about college baseball (ironically Bama being one of them). State is the other, and they're not even in the same stratosphere of consistency as we are.
I want a national championship every year too, but it's okay to want that and be a realist that acknowledges a lot more schools care about winning in college baseball now.

He wins, and he wins a lot.

I've heard the stories, and I have friends that have left the program and talked shite too. I'm not portraying the guy a nun. But I also am not going to sit here and say he should be fired because he's an a-hole and because of his press conference rhetoric.

Yeah, I'm 23 and was really young during the Smoke era, but even I could see the blatant decline the program was in. And if he was worth a shite someone would have taken him from North Florida by now.
Maineri chaps my arse for admitting he took off after the 2009 season, but he rited the ship, BBQ Grewe is gone, and we're now a consistent 50-win program.
For me there's a fine line between acknowledging there are better coaches out there and wanting Maineri fired. No wonder there are jackasses who hate Alleva with that ridiculous mindset

LSU baseball is going to suck this season.
I can't wait for the melt.

yeah, I pretty much have zero expectations for this season. We could a bitch to play in the postseason with our staff, but no way we host this year

Smokes 5 years at LSU: 0-4 in Omaha
PM's last 6 years at LSU: 1-4 in Omaha
Barely better.
And I know about the regular season success. PM has had really good teams. Better teams than what smoke had. Again, that's my point. You'd think he'd have more to show for it.

Smoke: Omaha 2 times in 5 years.
Mainieri: Omaha 4 times in the last 7 years and won the CWS once. I don't count his first year because the talent inventory was scarce when he took over after Smoke.
You've got a vendetta against Mainieri that even casual baseball posters on the Rant acknowledge. You're not even close to being objective.

4 times in 8 years*. '08 was was 8 seasons ago. '09 was 7 seasons ago. So twice in the last 6 years. Same amount of trips that smoke had in 5. As good as his teams have been in those 6, he has very little to show for it in the NCAAT.
What have I said that's subjective there?

Using "the last 6 years" instead of the last 7 is what makes your posts almost unreadable.
Posted on 10/2/15 at 5:55 pm to Mickey Goldmill
I'll be able to use 7 soon enough.

We were really good in the regular season last year. Just like we have been the 3 years prior. We just sucked when it mattered most. Just like we have the 3 years prior.
