I'm getting ready to leave for the game and thought some of the young whipper-snappers might enjoy some background on Syracuse.
Syracuse played its first football game on November 23, 1889.
The 1920s end Vic Hanson is the only member of both Basketball Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame.
1915 Rose Bowl invite (declined).
1953 Orange Bowl.
1957 Cotton Bowl.
1959 Orange Bowl.
1959 National Championship, undefeated, Cotton Bowl win vs Texas.
Notable Players from this era:
Jim Brown.
Ernie Davis, first African American to win the Heisman.
Floyd Little.
Larry Csonka.
1988-2001, more success under coaches Dick MacPherson and Paul Pasqualoni, appearing in 11 bowl games (including 3 major bowls) and winning 9 (one against LSU, dammit!).
3 Big East football championships.
Notable players from this era:
Donovan McNabb.
Marvin Harrison.
Dwight Freeney.
Keith Bulluck.
Rob Moore.
Donovin Darius.
Qadry Ismail.
Kevin Johnson.
Rob Konrad.
Tebucky Jones.
Marvin Graves.
2008 Doug Marrone, a former Orange player and offensive coordinator for New Orleans Saints, hired as head coach.
2010 winning record for first time since 2001 (7-5), including road wins against #19 West Virginia and 2-time defending conference champions Cincinnati. First bowl bid since 2004 and along with 2nd ranked Oregon and 10th ranked Boise State, 5 road wins are the best in 2010 of all BCS teams.
2010, defeated Kansas State in inaugural Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
2012 defeated West Virginia in Pinstripe Bowl.
January 7, 2013, Marrone hired by Buffalo Bills.
2013 After Marrone departure, promoted defensive coordinator Scott Shafer to head coach. Led the Orange to 7-6.
2013 Texas Bowl defeated Minnesota.
2013 also first season for the Orange in the ACC.

Interesting info.
But how could you leave out Moose Johnston?

Barring some unforeseen disaster, Saturday will be first time LSU has ever beaten the Orange Men of Syracuse.
- I stand corrected. 1965 sugar Bowl.

There was a running back and ncaa champion wrestler Jim Nance early 1960s. Boston Patriots mid 1960s to 1970s. He was between Davis and Floyd Little. AFL rushing leader in 1966 .

A few more additions: John Mackey HOF tight end, Joe Morris, & Gary Anderson - kicker.
Appreciate the plug as tradition & history are the primary things that have kept SU fans motivated for more than a decade. We hope we're going to be a competitive program in the near future and hope to give you a better game in 2017 than we'll give you tomorrow. It'll still be a glorious event. #8 LSU in the dome is memorable. You're also coming to central New York in its best season. It's a little chilly at nite with warm but not hot days. Fall colors are not at their peak, but getting there. The tailgating alone should be superb. Can't wait...

Syracuse was also independent until 1990 when the Big East was created.
Their most common opponents all time are Penn State, Pitt, Colgate, and WVU.
Wish I could go and also participate in this drinking contest.

My great Uncle was on that Cuse team. He was Floyd Little's backup, so he didn't get to play much, lol. Had he gone to Kansas who also offered him he would of been the backup to Gale Sayers.
He grew up with Ernie Davis in Elmira NY, and was roommates with Jim Nance at Cuse.
He started the legacy of Cuse diehards/alums in our family.

Maybe some of those whipper-snappers read everything you just posted in The Advocate this morning.

Real name: Bucky "Tehfricky" Jones
OK, its lame but not bad for an altered state on a Friday afternoon.

Hey, you guys should all know Tebucky - he played for the Saints for a couple years after spending most of his career with the Patriots. He and Donovin Darius made up the best set of safeties Syracuse has ever had in the '90s.
