Congrats to LSU on the win. I know it's not the margin or performance overall you guys were hoping for, but I'm holding out hope some of you might realize that SU wasn't quite as bad as advertised.

I'm rooting for LSU to have a terrific season. You guys have been incredibly classy, cordial fans, and Leonard Fournette is just amazing. He is pretty much literally Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl. He's just not fair.

Since we're not in the same conference: here's hoping you guys run the table.
Syracuse fan stopping in to say that I want you all to know I'm writing an angry letter to Congress pleading with them to make Leonard Fournette illegal.

Good god.

It turns out that Texas A&M is one of the few teams in NCAA history to invoke the Mercy Rule (continuous clock) during their 77-0 loss to Oklahoma in 2003.

A little more recently (earlier this season), they actually shortened the second half in the 76-0 win for Boston College over Howard (from 15 minute quarters to 10 for the 3rd and 4th).

Yes, that's the kind of powerhouse OOC team Boston College puts on its schedule.

Jim Brown is one of the greatest athletes in American history. Led the NFL 8 out of 9 years in rushing and NEVER missed a game in those 9 years. He is also widely considered the greatest lacrosse player of all-time.

It's kind of amazing that he only retired out of pure spite and stubbornness. Basically, the Browns told him that he couldn't go make Dirty Dozen, and he said, "Oh no?"

And the rest is history.

Saw that. Fournette is making it difficult for SU fans to hate him as soon as the final whistle blows on Saturday. Well, other than spelling Ernie wrong, but that's neither here nor there.

I think Jim Brown. He was about the same size, was fast, and was able to accelerate, then able to bowl people over or spin and run away from them. He should have won the Heisman.

Obviously, can't go wrong with either. Fournette also seems like a pretty humble kid, so I'll go with Ernie there, too. Ernie, after getting tackled, would famously often help the defender up and say "Nice tackle." Unbelievable human being. Unbelievable tragedy.

Probably closer to Ernie. Jim was mostly brute strength, as you alluded to. Ernie was the faster of the two. Had Ernie not passed away, he'd have been the tailback with Brown as the fullback for Cleveland.

The word from folks in Syracuse (sadly, I'm an SU fan/alum stuck in Texas and unable to join in the festivities) is that all of the bars down in Armory Square are already filling up with lots of purple and gold.

Wish I could be up there this weekend. I don't expect a pretty game from a Syracuse perspective, but it'd be fun to drown my sorrows up there with so many people who enjoy getting good and sloshed.

Really interested in hearing what folks think of Dinosaur, mainly because no one ever believes that upstate NY could have great BBQ. The only person I've ever met for whom expectations weren't surpassed was my wife, a native Texan, but it's more because she's weird and has a very strange palate.

That is not a real name.

Hey, you guys should all know Tebucky - he played for the Saints for a couple years after spending most of his career with the Patriots. He and Donovin Darius made up the best set of safeties Syracuse has ever had in the '90s.
Any of you guys head to Cooperstown, outside of just the Hall of Fame (which is great, at least the first time you visit), I'd highly recommend checking out Ommegang Brewery. It's not too far outside of Cooperstown and has some great beer. I'm sure some of you are probably familiar with it, it's relatively well known.

I've had a nice, shitty drunk day there before. It was delightful.

how many times do you think your QB will throw?

I think we'll rotate at least 2 QBs, so total passes attempted? I'd wager 15-20, depending on how things go. I can't imagine we'll try to throw it more than 25 times.

I'm sorry, it is solid against the sisters of the poor. I hope (apparently you don't quite completely understand) that you realize that you aren't playing the sisters of the poor. Sure you can out talent very weak teams.....but you are going up against the best OL that you have faced in many years.

You do realize I said I think Fournette will get his 150, right? And I am fully aware that there's basically no chance SU can win on Saturday. Not every offense in America has a rushing attack like LSU - which I fully understand is by far the best rushing attack we'll see this year. I'd be willing to bet SU still winds up in the top 25 nationally in rush defense, though, because again - not everyone we play is going to be as good at running the ball as LSU. Like I said - solid, not spectacular front 7.
Hope you don't mind an SU fan chiming in...

By quarter:

1Q: LSU 10, SU 0
2Q: LSU 24, SU 3
3Q: LSU 38, SU 6
4Q: LSU 45, SU 13

I'm realistic and also figure Les will ease off the gas as the second half wears on.
I'd plan on heading over earlier than you'd probably think. The Dome being on campus is great when you're a student; not so much when you're a regular fan. The infrastructure getting to and from there isn't great because it wasn't designed with a big stadium in mind.
SU's run defense is definitely solid. Not "3rd in the nation" good, but it's a young, talented, but not particularly deep front 7. Most of the guys who play are true sophomores/redshirt freshmen, with the occasional true freshman, and maybe a junior sprinkled in here and there. There's no real depth behind our top 4 DTs, or even before our top few DEs, so I can absolutely see fatigue playing a massive factor, especially since our secondary tends to give up a ton of inexcusable big plays.

Basically, our front 7 will often give us a 3rd and 8 or so, and then the secondary will immediately give up a 15 yard pass play so the front 7 stays on the field, and with so little depth, they get worn out. And then our offense (without Dungey) struggles, and they're right back out there.

I could realistically see the front 7 slowing down Fournette for the first quarter or so (I hope, at least), and then eventually he starts just running them over on his way to 150 yards because we just don't have enough horses to stop him. There's just no depth beyond our top one or two guys at most of our positions at DL or LB, which is a killer against a team that runs as well as LSU.
Please don't let the asinine, tasteless jokes of one dude let you think we're all a bunch of jackass douchebags.

Most of us are perfectly reasonable people with only a hint of jackass or douchebag, but rarely both traits. And obviously, most of us are fully aware the odds of us pulling off an upset went from about 2% with Dungey to 0.000001% without him.
Should be a better showing from Syracuse fans in the stands. Not only because of the opponent, but it's parent's weekend at SU and they're trying to push as many of the families to the game as possible.

Hopefully they stay past halftime.

It'll be interesting to see how your LSU players do on the turf. It's not the typical fast turf, it's actually a little slower than most turfs. I can't remember why - there was an article about it over the summer, but it's a little thicker and slower than most artificial surfaces.
Harry's, at least when I was a student at SU, was sketchy as hell but we went there every Monday because they had 50 cent Bud bottles and free wings for MNF. It was also the place to be if you wanted to buy cocaine, so I'm told.

So I guess if you've got any Tony Montanas in your groups, it's your best bet?

Then again, I graduated in '03 so things could have changed in the 12 years since then.
I wouldn't recommend walking from Kitty Hoynes. It's a hike, and half of it is uphill, and across some pretty heavy traffic. It's a great little Irish pub though. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (the 8 minute video about it is pretty easily found online, to get a sense of what the place is like).

Just realized that was a jerk move on my part to not just link it, so here it is: LINK
In the winters in Syracuse, the people who don't like to ski have exactly two things to do: drink, and watch basketball.

I don't ski.

Sadly, I'm in Texas these days so I won't be able to do my part in helping SU hold its own this weekend when it comes to boozing. I'll be there in spirit(s).
