You can. It doesn't mean people do. Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world,
But they do i think you are really underestimate how people get to watch the game.

I just think we assume that most of the world has the leisure time that we do to even follow a team from across the world
It's not an assumption when it's true

Damn this little Microsoft ad has got you boys all worked up.
Sure 450 million may be a tad off....it is a damn commercial for Pete's sake.
Can't we all just agree that Real is the most followed sports team/franchise/club/etc worldwide?

Just spitballing here, how many of the 2.6 billion people in China and India are RM fans? How about the 438 million in Pakistan and Indonesia? I would bet that less than 1/16 of the 323 million Americans are RM fans. Those are 5 of the 6 nations with the highest population. The other being Brazil.
you do realize how soccer mad countries like India and Indonesia are?
o and the epl rights in china just went for 400 million dollars

probably a good amount
there is a reason why these clubs are starting to tour Asia hard and expand their brand. Or you can get the big club fake kits all over asia on the streets.
BeIn is shown all over the globe in 7 languages including Cantonese.
Madrid also had huge numbers during their matches in Australia this summer.

You could be right that the world is just that crazy about soccer and Real is just that popular. But I feel like this relates similar to college football. I always think of LSU as being extremely football crazy. Then you realize the student section is only like 20% of enrolment and you start to think maybe people just don't care about football (sports) as much as you think. We spend a lot of our time on here talking about soccer, and we assume everyone is like us.
Again, maybe this number is right, but it is just staggering.

They probably also count people who support Madrid as their second club after their local one as official fans.

This whole discussion doesnt even take into consideration what we consider a "fan"

It's just a fluff figure put out by the club.
However, Real Madrid is immensely popular, especially in some of the areas mentioned in this thread, e.g., Indonesia.
I don't think that anyone is talking about hardcore fans, either. 20% of the LSU student body may attend, but I would imagine that most LSU students are at least casual fans of the football team. I would consider myself a fan and didn't attend every game, and even when I did, I'd sometimes leave early.

hey have 84 million likes on fb not 48.
Aren't you in England? Those are metric likes. 48m is what it converts to in imperial likes.

I believe it. Real Madrid is almost as big around the world as Zenit.
