What do you call the place where you take clothes and pay money to wash them?

My Virginia wife just heard me say, "washateria" and had no clue what that is, even though she claims to be southern. She said it was called a laundry mat once I told her what it was...NOT WHERE I AM FROM. I bet NOLA folks say laundry mat, because yall talk like northerners.

Wash-listeria. They serve Blue Bell ice cream there too.

I know, shitty joke. But I'm sober, bored, and it's the best I could come up with.

I've seriously never heard of that word. At first, I thought OP is/was trolling.

Just like you always said you would some day
And I'll get out my money and make a bet
That I'll be seein' you down the Launderette

No one here knows because we all have home laundries and maids to staff them.

I think it's a redneck thing. I've heard both used a lot.

The cleaners.

I have never paid to have my clothes cleaned at a washateria. I just wait until the person loads their clothes and walks out. Then I remove their clothes and add mine.

Some washaterias have a drop off service where they will wash and fold your stuff for you.

That's called a washamat or a laundryteria.
