Bisbano’s owner: lawsuit could shutter business

A local restaurant owner worries a pending lawsuit could close his business.
The lawsuit alleges that Bisbano’s Pizza Parlor does not provide an entrance, restrooms or parking for those with physical disabilities.
The restaurant also has no accessible entrance to the bottom floor cellar, a late-night spot for live music.
“I can’t afford an attorney, and I can’t afford to do the renovations,” the restaurant’s owner George Petro said. “I can pay the employees and pay the note on this place. But believe me, I don’t have a wife at home living off of the income from this place. It takes two incomes for us to survive.”
Lafayette resident Liam Doyle filed the lawsuit last Thursday with help from the Advocacy Center of Louisiana.

Petro said he told Hahn earlier this year he would look into designating handicapped parking spaces and adding a ramp to the restaurant’s front entrance.
But Petro said he has not yet made those changes because he feared the advocacy group would push for him to add an accessible entrance to the cellar or construct bathrooms on the upper level.
“We had a good conversation, but it seemed like she was trying to intimidate me,” Petro said. “Making all of those changes would bankrupt me.”
If they close Bisbano's because of this guy, I will complain.

If it's an old enough building, they're grandfathered in, so what next?

That's usually how most of these groups work.

Sounds like the guy I heard about who was going around suing barbers/hairstylists because their signage said "Walk-ins Welcome".

Making Bisbano's wheel chair accessible will not be easy.
ETA:
Same here.

I feel like this suit is less about the opportunity to go to Bisnano's in a wheelchair and more about an opportunity to make cash.

I represented a national Pizza delivery chain secondary to what was basically an extortion letter. The Complaining party was handicapped and threatened to sue but said he would settle for $ 5K.
I told them no worries....stay home....we would deliver him a Pizza.
One of the funniest letters I have ever written as an attorney.

when these frivolous suits fail the plantiff should be held accountable for damages and legal fees.
This shite is absurd

This is an activist push by the attorney's representing handicapped individuals. I manage a shopping center and there have been multiple visits to shopping centers in the area informing business of their intent. This is about cash.

I lived on Bisbano's when I was at ULL. It would suck if they have to close.
But it's true. The place is a nightmare for handicap accessibility.

So, this guy forces Bisbanos to close. He still won't be able to go to the place. What does the a-hole accomplish?
Besides proving what a dick he is.

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been invited to Bisbano’s by friends and have had to turn them down because I can’t get in,” Doyle said.
What kind of friends don't help wheel you up the step?
Dude should be sueing his friends for no care.
Or maybe his "friends" go to Bisbano's specifically because he can't. Ever think of that Doylie?

Most unconstitutional infringement on property rights in the history of the United States.

How many hole in the wall restaurants would have to close if they start sueing all of them?
I feel for the person with the disability that just wants a pizza but this is getting ridiculous.

What happened to being able to refuse service to anyone? It's your business.

They've been running this racket for years. There's some a-hole in CA who drives the state town to town extorting businesses while on "holiday"

I hope someone rolls Liam Doyle into a river then gives his lawyer and anyone involved in the lawsuit on his behalf some cement shoes to join him

That's the worst?
So this guy can't have pizza inside and will potentially screw others?
If the owner makes the changes, can't he still refuse service to this guy independent of a disability?
