Loop..never mind, too progressive for BR
A loop is progressive? That is an idea from the 70s. We need actual progressive ideas such as using modern technology from home to work.
Doing any construction alone will not save us and the construction traffic will be unbearable with little results at the end. We need better ideas.

Why is helping ascension parish suburb dwellers such a high priority when the two main problems are the bottleneck at the bridge and interstate traffic coming down I-12.
There's already going to be a southern bypass (I-49) that connects I-10 in Nola to I-10 in Lafayette.

Why would they need to get back to I-12? If you are taking 12 from Hammond, you are going through BR to go to TX. I-55 meets 12 in Hammond, so you bypass everything if you take I-55 to 3127 which ends at Hwy 70 before Donaldsonville. You complete 3127 to Gross Tete, this takes all the traffic going to New Orleans out of BR because 3127 runs to Boute/St Rose I-310 exit or if you are going to Atlanta/Jackson, etc., I-55 to Hammond/I-59 Kiln. It removes all the traffic just passing through. If you need to go to BR or somewhere on 12; you still can. This also allows traffic to cross the river at 3 places, Sunshine Bridge, Gramercy, and Hale Boggs. If it connects to St Francisville, that is 4 or take the new bridge/old bridge. Those wanting to stay on 10 or 12 can. This takes out the drive through traffic.

To hell with the businesses on Perkins. They don't drive it, they don't have to sit in it, and they are really the only folks who have any sort of economic interest in prohibiting it. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Screw them.

The state can at least implement this
Bringing all the state buildings/employees back downtown and increasing their number is a significant contributor to the problem. And the cost/sq ft is way higher in most cases, also contributing to budget problems. There have been repeated, compounding, bad decisions made over the years. They need to divert as much through traffic, especially trucks, off the Interstate within the city, because nothing is being done to make areas close in to all the major employment attractive enough to bring all the folks that took flight back to the city proper.

Adding a lane will magically remove the bottleneck at the bridge. Sigh.

While some people oppose anything, most at the meeting were interested in having the state do something.
In the end we need to fix I-10 through the middle of town and we need to do that in conjunction with a new bridge, by-passes, a loop or whatever.
One or even two projects won't solve things, it might take several projects to improve on what we have now. Keep in mind is the folks at DOTD are thinking 15-20 years down the road and it takes a decade to get a project done from jump to completion.
They certainly need to do something but adding a lane to and from WBR then putting party hats on is not enough. Widen and add a fricking bridge? Yes. Add a loop? Yes.

You don't think they are people abusing the system now? If it saved us money in less costs to run government (fewer and smaller office leases) and it meant less traffic then I am for it. If people are not going to get their work done at home then most likely they are already not doing crap all day.
Sure they are abuses now, but if they didn't have to report to work I'd imagine the lakes, rivers, malls, and shopping centers would get over crowded really fast M-F.

The issue is complex. Besides the Ascension suburban traffic you have all the traffic from the chemical plants that line the East and West sides of the River.
Then you have legitimate interstate traffic. It was stated that 60% of the I-10 traffic in BR were vehicles that didn't stop in BR. Sure some probably go to NO, but a majority continue on the Mississippi and Eastward.
If I-49 were finished from Lafayette I-10 to NO it would help, but when is that going to happen? 10 years?
The problems are complex, and it will take some smart planning to figure the best plan to alleviate congestion, and the I-10 widening from 415 to I-12 has got to happen to do much good along with a loop or by-pass, etc.

And that's the position the DOTD lady took.
We need multiple projects, and just doing one isn't the answer.

the money just doesn't exist. It gets siphoned off to unions
Goddamn, this isn't the 1950s. This is an anti-labor administration in a right to work state. What are you talking about?
Do you know nothing about public sector unions?

That's some fail right there. First of all public unions in Louisiana don't do shite. Secondly, and most importantly, the design and construction of roads is privatized. It is contracted out.
Recently, most of the money for roads has in fact been raided by anti-Union politicians so that they can fill budget holes they created and beef their police state up. Only 11% of the state's gas tax money gets spent on roads.

That's because 30% gets skimmed off the top to the state police union. Another 50% goes to the unionized workers at DOTD to "maintain facilities". FYI, less than 5% actually maintains a single road.

So you're just making stuff up now. Hard to compete with that.
