As an LSU fan in my 30s, I'd be fine if I never heard his name again. Any player who didn't have to play against black athletes shouldn't be considered better than anyone playing today. I've seen his "run". Not that magical to me.

Sorry but I just don't see the hype. Geaux Tigers!

Cannon could and would play today. Give him the coaching , training, and suppliments of today...he'd STILL be a star. But comparing anyone from the old days to today without comparable training can't be done. For one, Cannon's talent was purely natural. Today's athletes are groomed and trained from grade school.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Cannon's combination of size and speed is rare even in this era of training/nutrition.

i cant wait to read this book.

Sucks for you because you are going to hear his name for the rest of your life.

Did he refuse to play against any black players when he joined the professional ranks? Did his dental practice deny any black patrons? No? You are the one who sounds like a racist.

Are you kidding? Dude broke like 8 tackles on that play.

Ole Miss's defense had been keying on him for 3 quarters. He was whipped physically. And he still made that run.

so much of the magic was the importance of the run, the timing of the run, and the magnitude of the game, not just the actual play itself.

We were undefeated and ranked no. 1. Ole Miss was undefeated and ranked no. 3. We were down 3-0 early fourth quarter. Obviously the run was one of the most important plays of that game (and season) as we went on to an undefeated national championship.

Magical indeed.

Which helps explain the stupidity that you posted after this.

Then you are not much of an LSU fan. Bandwagon maybe but true fan? Not. You can't pick and choose your history. To dismiss one of the most iconic events in LSU history and CFB history shows your youthful ignorance.

Who said he was better than anyone else? He was great for his time and would probably be great today. Players can only play against who they have during their lifetime. To try to compare players from different generations is fun but unrealistic. Would the 1976 Steelers beat the 2015 Patriots? Different era and different game.

Can't understand this. What was on the line, time in the game when it happened and results of the run were all pretty important.

Apparently not

Fact is the league was all white back then so someones achievements shouldn't be put down due to rules that are not in their control. It's not his fault there were no black players. Very stupid argument you just made...
