I would bet that most of us think we are smart enough to do it.

What say the OT?

In New Orleans, with a 20 minute response time? Yes.

Yes - although it is not as easy as one might think. Nor as profitable - banks have gotten smart at keeping the right amount of money at the branch at one time. That, plus the growth of electronic transactions means that risk does not pay as well as it once did, as a ROI.

But, most folks with military experience have the skills required to work a bank crew (which is kind of a major league of robbery).

Anyone could if they got serious and organised.

Let's say your children and SO develop an extremely rare illness for whatever reason..and they will 100% die within 2 weeks. There is a cure, but just enough for a few people has been made. Your people don't have the time. It is in a bank vault, but being stored there just on the off chance Bobby Jindal and his family get sick.

Not sure. But one day I plan on knocking off the South of the Border restaurant between Woodville and St. Francisville. Been planning it for years. A few factors make it the perfect heist. 1) Blue haireds. It's ran by old fossil arse blue haireds. No doubt I could overpower them even if they all banded together and descended upon me at once. 2) Video poker. While the restaurant itself is probably broke as shite and living off its bygone days of yesteryear, they do have video poker in there. That requires a certain level of cash to be on hand. I'm thinking I could make off with upwards to a grand off the place. 3) Location. It's a heavily forested and hilly area located on a state line with 2 conflicting state law enforcement agency. Landmass cops- "uh, not sure if the perp is even in our state, lets gets some doughnuts and call the coonasses, it's their store". LA cops- "Roger that dispatch, we're currently conducting a month long sweep of seat belt violators, will notify Landmass". Me- on a beach in Barbados living the life of Andy Dufresne.

I know a place where it would work, no doubt.

Not sure of the amount you would get, but it would give you 2 banks and no cops for 10 minutes easily.

There are better choices for straight cash. Bank = fed case.

Large scale smash and grab during an LSU football home game.

Of course if I were actually trying to, the cost to execute the heist would be greater than the take. At least for a bank around here.

The 'Superman 3' & 'Office Space' way is probably the best way to rob a bank nowadays. Steal a little bit from everyone through hacking. Tech is changing so fast, someone could pull this on small and mid-size banks.

There was an AMA on reddit a while back with a retired bank robber. Interesting read if you have the time.

Yes, no doubt about it.

Wouldn't have to show a gun and would have time to chat up the teller and meet her for drinks later.

It depends what you mean by pull off. I'm pretty much positive that I could get out of the building with the money. I remember reading an article a while back that bank employees are trained to cooperate with robbers. The money is insured anyway, and it isn't worth risking an employees life. It really isn't worth it to be a hero.

Whether or not I would go uncaught long term is another issue. It isn't like you can just take the money straight to your bank to deposit it in your checking account.

Disguise and yes, I think it would be rather easy.

Hell, people steal actual ATM's and never get busted and that takes a lot longer than a bank robbery.

I don't think so. Although I am not averse to a life of crime I don't think I could pull it off

Best route would be like the movie place beyond the pines. Dual sport bike and hit the woods.

Or you could just let loose a bunch of dogs. That would keep the cops busy

Frick that. You'd be better off just scamming old people. There are plenty of old people with six figures just sitting in the bank.
