TORONTO (Reuters) - At least two people may have committed suicide following the hacking of the Ashley Madison cheating website, Toronto police said on Monday, warning of a ripple effect that includes scams and extortion of clients desperate to stop the exposure of their infidelity.
Avid Life Media Inc, the parent company of the website, is offering a C$500,000 ($379,132) reward to catch the hackers.
In addition to the exposure of the Ashley Madison accounts of as many as 37 million users, the attack on the dating website for married people has sparked extortion attempts and at least two unconfirmed suicides, Toronto Police Acting Staff Superintendent Bryce Evans told a news conference.

How do you "may have" kill yourself. Weirdly vague IMO.

Here's hoping they never get caught.

You mean the evil genius who spent six grand setting up a stranger with an Ashley Madison account on the whim that it might be leaked one day?
That is one malicious dude.

Yes really. Why are they reporting it at all related to AM if they have no idea yet? What if the 2 people just offed themselves because of other things? It seems like to me they are only saying it's related to AM because of the timing. You either know or you don't, "may have" or "unconfirmed" tells me they don't. So don't report it until you do.

Why kill yourself over being exposed?
Just divorce and be done with it.
Unless they are preachers or the like.

again, they have no facts, they are investigating two suicides, they have nothing to do with AM yet, so dont report it.

Two people have taken their own lives after their details were leaked by the Ashley Madison hackers, it was disclosed today.
Captain Michael Gorhum, who served for 25 years with the San Antonio Police Department in Texas, was named as one of the suicide victims.
And at a press conference on Monday, Canadian police confirmed a second suicide of a person also believed to have been using the extramarital affairs website.
Police are investigating if the deaths are as a direct result of the leak of Ashley Madison users
all this says to me is that 2 people killed themselves and were on the list.
With 30 million people on the list it doesnt surprise me. that doesn't mean they did it because of the leak.

I'd be more pissed that they suckered me out of that kind of money than actually getting caught cheating. Some of those stupid fricks spent like $6k on that shite.

How much do they make a year?
They knew their members would be exposed. They ignored the threats despite their knowledge that this would happen.
So now, after people are dying after poor decisions, decisions only made public after this "anonymous" site allowed their information to be made public, they they are offering a reward? They created this den of sin.
AM could have shut down the site and all of this would have been avoided.

tough shite. If ever the saying "play stupid games, wind stupid prizes" was apropos, this is it.
