Why we need to (and hopefully will) colonize Mars

Warning up front; this is an obscenely long, 5 part blog post. That said, it's an absolute must read for anyone who has ever had even an inkling of interest the universe (including our place in it).
Actually, even if you haven't, it still might be important to read. Read one part a day for the next 5.
Cheers!

Moon is closer and has some transformers that are hibernating there. No brainier between the moon and Mars.

Are only men allowed to go?

I really hope it happens. A lot of incredible technology came out of the big push to the moon and further made America more powerful.
Just imagine what we could get with a push to mars and America's standing after that.

Musk will need more government money so he can maintain his genius status

1- Mars has no magnetosphere.
2- See Point #1.
Money spent on that dead rock should be spent exploring several ice / water moons in our Solar System
There is nothing man can ever do to the Earth that will make Mars a better option.

I just skimmed it and rather than address the content, I'll just make some ad hominem attack on the author.
I've read a few of his posts and aside from an over-reliance on superlatives, italicized phrases, and internet memes that guy is way too much of a dickrider for Musk:
Damn, that's deep man.

When I asked Musk about his knowledge of business, he scolded me, explaining, “I don’t know what a business is. All a company is is a bunch of people together to create a product or service. There’s no such thing as a business, just pursuit of a goal—a group of people pursuing a goal.”
Damn, that's deep man.

Never know what is out on one of those moons, waiting patiently for the humans to at least be advanced enough to come to them, for them to intoduce themselves.

Its really awesome but seems like there was something written in the 60's about no country can profit or weaponize space or anything from or in space.
I'm possibly wrong on this but seems like I've read it somewhere along the way.

I like how we'll colonize Mars before a loop is built

A few replies at once:
Duh. But exaggeration aside, if you've ever enjoyed pondering our place in the universe, this authors prose is highly likely to motivate you strongly. He describes the scale of our existence beautifly, even if not exactly succintly. And even if you think everything he says is crap, it's still a plain out fun read for thinkers.

1967 Outer Space Treaty, on which the United States, Russia, China, and more than 100 other countries are signatories. It reads with an optimism that seems strange today in the era of the mothballed space shuttle. The treaty bans nuclear weapons in space, forbids nations to make claims to celestial real estate, and for private space enterprise. According to Gabrynowicz, “Non-state actors … are authorized to be in space, that’s what Article 6 of the Outer Space Treaty is all about.” In fact, it’s apparent that the drafters of the treaty expected that resources would be extracted from space at some point, she says, “But we’ve just never reached agreement on what happens to extracted resources. … So what is happening is you have companies that are chomping at the bit to clarify the rules.”

The issue of no magnetosphere basically makes mars a post nuclear war planet earth, except with no liquid water or breathable atmosphere.
The magnetosphere is what protects the earth from all of the radiation flying through space.
I haven't read the article yet, but I do agree it's important to at least start the process of trying something somewhere.
