Sorry. Posting from phone. I meant Florida had no business beating Georgia last year. But they loved messing up their season.

You're talking to an Aggie who claims to have no rivals

they're even important to other schools and fans

Rivalries are great for any sport. They build passion and interest. And of course Baylor and TCU are rivals, as TCU (wrongly) blames Baylor for keeping TCU out of the Big 12 when it first formed and Baylor hates TCU for being a bunch of fake Christians in a fake cowboy town. Oh, and they are both good right now. It's outstanding how much they hate each other.
What's even better is how much A&M and Texas still hate each other without even playing. The rivalry is getting more intense as a proxy war. It's wonderful, especially as their fans deny how obsessed they are with each other, which they clearly are. The best way to prove someone is your rival is to continually, loudly, and without prompting insisting to anyone and everyone that someone is not your rival. Sure, we believe you.

I'm a fan of another school that has a rival, I don't enjoy their season any more or less than a&ms

These threads always go the same way, posters that are fans of teams that don't really have a rivalry or have lost theirs due to realignment say "rivalries don't matter anymore" and posters that are fans of teams that still have big rivals say "of course rivalries matter" and we get nowhere
Same thing. Every. Time.
Same thing. Every. Time.

Are college football rivalries still important?
Ever attended a family Christmas party after losing the Egg Bowl that year?

Where are we supposed to go? This is a stupid question.
Yes, rivalries are still important. The game of college football would be LESS important if Michigan/OSU, Alabama/Auburn, USC/UCLA or whatever, didn't play.

Because big time games would still be played regardless

And teams in those "big time games" would develop a rivalry.
If all it was a bunch of random teams and fans that didn't care about beating each other the sport would suck.

Not necessarily. In fact, most often not.

You don't have to have rivals to care about beating each other very much.

Yes, if two teams continuously played in big time games a rivalry would develop. Can you point to an instance that didn't occur?

Not sure about USC and Oregon in big time games but the other two for sure have a little rivalry.

I understand it's hard for you, as an aggy, to comprehend what a rivalry is.

They're obsolete. And that was stamped as official as soon as the college playoffs started. College football is one sport where the little guy simply cannot win, and all but 20 programs or so really have very little chance. and so rivalries in such afforded teams legitimate successes since there was no real champion.

You asked me to provide you with examples of how schools played multiple big games with one other but aren't considered rivals, I gave them to you. College football would still be just as big with or without rivalries. They may be fun and important to the individual schools, but on a larger level? Eh
