That's a terrible story. Texas should have him put down relatively quickly.

You are seriously not making sense here. What citizens would they have protected by going in guns blazing??
Any non-combatant in that house would be referred to as 'hostages' = when is the last time anyone thought it was a good idea for a group of police bum rushed an armed and dangerous man holding hostages? Waiting for a SWAT team was the best way to protect citizens - and hostages.
I cannot believe you are still trying to maintain this line of thought. Best to admit you were just revealing your anti-cop bias and leave it at that.

Sorry so long but these are the facts of his lengthy record LINK
Chief Deputy Tim Cannon stated that the deceased victims were counted as six children and two adults. The victims ranged in age from six to fifty. Two of the victims were female and six were male.
The deceased family members were identified as: Valerie Jackson, 40; her husband Duane Jackson, 50; and their six children – Nathaniel, Honesty, Duane, Jr., Caleb, Trinity and Jonna.
David Ray Conley, III, who has a lengthy criminal record that included several cases of domestic violence, a search of court records by Breitbart Texas revealed. That record includes felony and misdemeanor charges of assault on a family member, a felony charge of retaliation, felony possession of crack cocaine, felony robbery charges, evading arrest, criminal trespass, and felony auto theft. His criminal record in Harris County dates back to 1988. He has been seen before judges in at least six different misdemeanor and felony courts in Houston.
The warrant for his arrest was issued on July 8, court records revealed. He was charged with felony family assault and listed as a 2-time offender. He allegedly injured his girlfriend, Valerie Jackson by pushing her “head into a refrigerator with his hand.”

This is so terrible.
The link in the OP stated
What a fricking piece of shite. 8 people, 6 of them children, dead because he got pissed that the locks were changed. I hope Texas deals with him quickly.

I don't have an anti cop bias. I have a anti swat bias. They are waste of resources and encourage bad police policies. If these guys didn't have swat to fall back on they would have gone in.

4 cops rush that house two cops get shot. Then what?
They did the right thing. Bring in the swat team, they clean houses for a living.
I would think that when they got to the house and set up they gave the pos so many minuets to give it up or they were coming in to put him down. He didn't want to die.

His extensive record at the county courts website. LINK
Some may be annoyed with my long posts. In this case they are just the facts. I believe that when discussing a case that the facts are relevant and not everyone has the time to go looking for them.
His criminal record starts in 1979 and contains a DUI,
fleeing police,
auto theft,
2 robbery threats,
another DUI,
criminal trespass,
evading arrest,
possession of crack,
retaliation,
another retaliation,
aggravated assault of family,
assault/bodily injury of family member.
and now 8 murders.

But now he is going to get that GED and college degree which is really what has been holding him back.

I think something must be off with the quotes because it was some other poster that said "Cops are complete bitches. See dead kids and run."

Well this is ironic, it seems that this is the last thing Conley posted on Aug 1, just a week before killing 2 adults and 6 kids, including his own child.

Cops look through window, see a body on the floor. Cops try to go in and gunman starts shooting at them. Cops call in SWAT to deal with the situation. SWAT shows up, gunman surrenders. After house is cleared the cops discover 8 dead in the house.
How hard is that to understand?
None of that addresses his point that something's wrong with a process that leads cops to back off when there is evidence that a suspect is killing people.
They had no way of knowing that backing off wouldn't give him time to execute more people, and unlike a hypothetical "hostage situation", they knew his intentions were lethal.
They also knew there were more potential victims inside because they were doing a welfare check.
I wonder how many people have died while good guys with guns stood around and waited for experts to arrive to deal with a dangerous situation.
