True Detective season two- Should I catch up?

Have only watched the first episode, which I liked. Should I catch up, and finish the season, or ditch it, and be glad that I haven't wasted more time on it?

Watch it. Ignore all the hate. I'm very happy I decided to give it a shot because I'm pumped for the finale.

I've watched them all and consider it time wasted. If I had will power I'd skip the finale. It's just a mess.

It's not worth binge watching. Season 2 has been okay but outside of Farrell's performance nothing really stands out as great from a story or performance perspective (that gunfight was good too I guess).

Its been bad but ive still enjoyed it. Only 8 episodes so not like its a huge amount of time invested

Episodes 4, 6, 7 are on par with season 1.

The last 2 episodes have been killer......90 min finale should be a blast

I'm in the exact same boat with you then. I plan to rewatch the first episode again and blow through all of them at the same time. The first episode was really slow so I assumed that it would take a few shows to get the pace up a bit and never could get caught up.

To each his own but I really like season 2 and recommend that you watch all the episodes.
I just finished season 1 and really liked it ad well. They're both good/great in their own ways. Don't want to elaborate and post possible spoilers. Just watch it, if you liked s1 then s2 you should enjoy.

Many people would disagree with this. Season 1 was great. Season 2 is in the balance, but certainly not great. With the right ending, it could be decent, but that's about it. That said, there is far worse shite on TV. Season 1 just set the bar very high.

I didn't watch season 1. I'm enjoying season 2. So I'm happy I didn't watch season 1.

1) It's not as good as season 1, accept that
2) It's not nearly as bad as this board makes it out to be, understand that...There are parts of the story that don't need to be there, and there could be more of a back story on some characters, it's far from perfect, but it's still definitely worth watching
3) A lot of people complained about Vince Vaughn in the first few episodes but he's settled in and has really come into character at the midway point of the season
4) A lot of people are complaining about Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly and saying that they suck and they're too this or too that, but IMO in reality they are accurately portraying what the character is going through...If you don't like the character that's one thing, and some times actors do ruin a role but I do not think this is the case

Isn't this the truth?
If you liked season 1 then I think you would like season 2. The story is much different but I mean it's still cops working through a big time case and dealing with a good amount of inner demons at the same time.
The board makes this show seem like total shite and that couldn't be further from the truth. It has its problems like every television show that's ever been created, but it's still entertaining. If someone says it sucks and isn't worth even checking out the first episode it's because they put ridiculous expectations that could never be fufilled upon the second season.

I mean you're only 6 episodes behind, it's not that big of a committment.
Plus, if you actually liked the first episode, there's definitely no reason not to catch up. It's a pretty clear consensus that the show sucked up until about episode 5ish so you're already ahead of the curve.

I've enjoyed it. The characters aren't as interesting as season 1, and it isn't in Louisiana so that takes a little something away for me. It's still a quality show.

In comparison to Season 1 of course it isn't that good, but it certainly is better than 99 percent of the crap on TV. Its only a 6 hour investment and I think it is worth it. I'm looking forward to the finale, now that I actually know what's going on.

Power through the first few episodes. It gets better.

Kitsch is rough to watch at times. The brooding thing is just a little overdone. McAdams is doing an okay job, but the whole knife training thing is also over the top. It's nice that they actually used it so as to not violate Chekhov's gun, but I feel like they really only needed to show it once.

Watch it, with the understanding that it's not nearly as good as the first season. There's been a lot to enjoy this season -- Colin Farrell is terrific, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch are good, the music is great, there's a real strong finish to fourth episode. The story is kind of a big trashy, pulpy mess -- the best bet is to just enjoy all the violence and sex and not try to think too hard and put it all together.
The biggest problem is that the three police characters are all too overstuffed. They all have too much going on. I mean, the first season Matthew McConaughey was a guy with substance abuse problems who was kind of nuts and Woody Harrelson couldn't keep his dick in his pants. The characters this season have like two big issues (at least). They should have pared stuff back.
