I had no idea it was so large until this thread. I remember telling coworkers in NOLA about it and they looked at me like I was crazy. I think I remember saying something along the lines of "It is a big event! Maybe over 100 people ran it this year!"

The time I spent outside in the sun last year was minimal. Once the morning is over and you're just drinking, you're in bars. Or at least I was

ETA: When y'all talk about too touristy, you talking about RDR or FQ Fest?
Because the most "touristy" I find that RDR gets is that everyone comes in from BR for it -- which isn't exactly touristy. The hotels are still dirt cheap right now; they're not getting a plethora of tourists.

FQ Fest, on the other hand, is a nightmare.

Pretty much.

Here are a few things first timer RDRers need to understand:
1) You will lose people you arrived with;
2) It takes twenty minutes to go four blocks;
3) Convince at least one person to bring a Camelbak full of water;
4) Don't eat Krystal burger and opt for Popeye's instead;
5) It's

Last time I went was in 2008 if I remember correctly. It wasn't small at that time. Had a good time, but the overcrowding was starting to get bad then. I really didn't have the desire to do it again, at least doing it legitimately by signing up and doing the walk/run. I'd rather donate my money then just do the day drinking thing. But then what's the point. I'd hate to see what it's like now.

Only did white linen one time about 2 years ago. That's another one where it's just too many people. Did not enjoy it at all. I would rather just go to a bar. Catch me as I'm walking out the bar drunk and I'll probably donate more to your cause than signing up for one of these charity events.

That's another one I did when I lived on Julia St. It was great in the early 2000's. Maybe a couple hundred people looking at art. I think there was maybe 2-5 food and drink vendors then.

I didn't experience a problem with crowds last year But I didn't hang around the Quarter during the day. By lunch, we were in JAX (which was crowded but a friend was the manager, so we had the private room upstairs overlooking the place -- I feel like a douche even saying that statement). By early afternoon, we were at Barcadia. Moved to Lucy's in the evening. And then Gold Mine late night.

Now WHITE LINEN -- I've been stuck in that. Never even technically have gone to the event, but it was going on one weekend when I was trying to meet a friend at Hilton Riverside. It was also MechaCon. Drove around for at LEAST an hour and a half trying to find parking. It was horrible.

Friend screamed at me in the middle of Harrah's when I finally arrived because he thought I was being a flake when really he had no idea what was going on out there and how difficult it was for me to get to him.

Knowing my friends, that is probable. But I REALLY hope at least one of them will be able to hang. Jones and I are always the ones who make it all night, and he isn't here

See, that's how I am on St. Pat's day. But I'm taking it easy tonight in preparation, and Sundays give me too much anxiety to really have fun (because I know I have work the next day), so I really like to take advantage of my Saturdays.

We have all agreed to hydrate well so we can make it late, but I guess we will see.

My best girlfriend from Mississippi is coming in, and she has been out in New Orleans like 2 times in her life -- and she is young and newly single -- so I wanted to take her to F&Ms.

So what you are saying is you wore a red dress, and hung out in NOLA all day. You didn't do the RDR. That's fine, and something a group of friends can get together and do anytime (outside of the cross-dressing), but that's not really doing the run. Last time I did it, it was a pain to get to the beer trucks and food. People were hanging outside of the area because there just wasn't enough room. When you started the "run", you got to the bars and they were already filled with people who had no intention of actually participating. It's become so big that it's not even it's own thing anymore. I'm not knocking people for doing that. Just saying that's what people mean when they say it's not the same.

Unfortunately, every fest in NOLA is starting to kinda suck. The cities events now almost feel more touristy, which it never used to feel like that

don't you just hate when things in your city become popular where people have the nerve to come visit and spend money and shite like that? Enough is enough.

Wait what? I always just register to races and don't run them. Even ones that don't include alcohol. I do Sleep for the Cure every year. And then I'll go out there and eat some jambalaya and whatnot when the race is over.

I don't run. Have you even seen me post here? LL do exercise? No.

My point was that the bars I went to last year were not crowded. They had plenty of people -- but they were not insane or hard to move or anything, with the exception of JAX, but I didn't have to deal with it there.

What a dumbass post. I love the fact that NOLA is thriving with new residents. However, with that it also causes headaches. One can mention that without undermining the good it does for the city
