I think Odell actually played ODP.

Westbrook is definitely faster than Yedlin. So is Calvin Johnson.

Beckham ran sub 4.4 at the combine. He is faster.

Westbrook is probably faster
Russ and Odell are only the ones I can get behind here, though I would love to see AD in goal

I'd rather see JJ Watt in goal. Have him drop about 30-40 lbs to get even quicker and more agile. Dude would have tiny little Mexicans and Englishmen pissing their pants! No one would dare challenge him for a 50/50 ball.
He would be a bigger, scarier, Oliver Kahn!

Goalie is the place where I have little doubt you could take an elite athlete from another sport, train them for a few years at goalie, and turn them into world class.
The reality is that being a goalie is a very different skill set than any other position in soccer...namely, you can use your hands (which most, especially basketball) sports require advanced hand-eye coordination.
Assuming that elite athletes can play any other position well is a shot in the dark.

Agree to disagree. I see a lot of the similarities between blocking shots in basketball to making a save, despite obviously the how different the range is where the ball can go.
Plus the guy has some absurd wingspan.

I think there may be an issue of being too tall?

Yeah I lost it there.
And then as I read on I saw Ronda Rousey

I think for a lot of guys it would be an issue, but I don't know with him. Dude is so coordinated for his size

I think one guy that is interesting if you ever want to make the "well if this guy trained his whole life at soccer" argument is Steph Curry. He is basically at the peak of technical ability (ball handling, passing, shooting) in the NBA.

Chris Paul is another. The ultimate would have been Deion Sanders. Talk about a freak. 6'1" and about 185 pounds. If he would have grown up in any soccer hot spot he would have been Ronaldoesque.

I have come to love soccer over the last 5 or so years. I follow the PL moderately closely and watch games every weekend. The reaction to this thread shows how pretentious and insufferable American soccer fans are.

or maybe your understanding of the game and what it takes to be elite is lacking b/c you've only been following for 5 years?
or you might be stupid?
if i was you i'd choose the first one.

I'm fully aware of how silly it is. It's a half serious hyopthetical someone came up with. Do you think the author seriously thinks JJ Watt would be good?
Posted on 7/28/15 at 6:43 pm to Lou Pai
honestly, I have heard people make those claims being dead serious so I'm not sure. also, I didn't read the article. We get this exact thread every time a big tournament is played. then folks on this board reacting like assholes b/c of it. makes sense to me.
