Question: Was the rocket that started to fire in the hangar before liftoff that Russell had to shutdown, the same one that malfunctioned later in the air, leading to his suicide run?

Obviously the movie is one big clusterfrick of contradictions and based 0% in reality, but I was just curious

maybe, never thought of that. Have you ever seen the original cut of the suicide scene?

Originally Russel was to not be allowed a jet, so he decides to strap a missile on his crop duster and take out the ship.

I shite you not...

I like the fact they used all of their pilots instead of SAMS first.

Why was the attack plan so bad? The ship was supposed to be 15 miles in diameter so why did they think shooting at one side of the ship would do anything.

Like we needed a cable repairman to discern hostile intent of the alien ships.

The biggest question is how did the aliens let Russell get so close to the mother ship. You know when they abducted him they shoved some sort of tracking probe up his arse, that's straight up alien move #1. Then despite monitoring him for years, they suddenly lose track of him after he goes onto the same military base that sends dozens of fighter jets at the ship?

Also, do you think the aliens remembered him as he screamed out, "I'm baaaaaaaaccccckkkkkkkkkk...." You know there had to have been some peanut gallery-type alien screaming, "I knew we should have killed him!!!!"

I used to rarely get my Mac to recognize anything Windows, much less an alien computer language.

And why didn't the aliens just get into the heads of all the pilots? They clearly had telepathy. Wouldn't they have done that to the guys who uploaded the virus?

And why would the Secretary of the Defense (before he was fired) be telling everyone they shouldn't attack the aliens? Makes absolutely no sense.

Other than that . . . it was fantastic entertainment.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, the entire premise behind documentaries is that they are based in reality.

Is there any way to verify what cities were hit by the aliens and which weren't, so we can estimate the death toll?

I think we can assume the following based on info from the movie:
DC, NYC, LA, Houston, Philadelphia, Paris, Moscow, London, Tokyo, Beijing, Colorado Springs (NORAD)

We know the following were spared:
Cairo, Sydney

Any others that can be confirmed?
