John Valek, LHP

Ht: 6'0"
Wt: 170 lbs
Yr: Junior
Hometown: Parkland, Fl
High School: Stoneman Douglas HS
Bats: Left
Throws: Left

Career Stats as Akron's Ace

Games Started - 42
Wins - 16
Losses - 17
CG - 4
ERA - 3.38
Innings Pitched - 277.1
Hits - 282
Earned Runs - 104
Strikeouts - 119
Walks - 71

LSU now has a starting rotation with experience!

Friday - Alex Lange
Saturday - John Valek
Sunday - Jared Poche

For those of you that aren't paying attention to baseball, this is a HUGE help to our pitching rotation by adding a kid that has 42 starts in 3 years under his belt. Not to mention he has exceptional command. At Akron he had not much going on around him to help him win games. At LSU, it will be fun to see him next season.

You really think he starts. I was thinking he could fit in as one of our top lefties out of the pen.

1. There's already a thread on this on the first page.
2. He isn't starting on the weekends.

277.1 innings pitched in 44 games means he has the stamina to be a starter on this team. He averages 6.3 innings per game. That is a great average. (Nola was 6.3 innings per game for an idea of where that average ranks among Starting pitchers at LSU)

I am not saying he is anywhere close to Nola in talent, he isn't. I am simply saying that LSU and CPM would be stupid not to consider this kid as a starter on the weekend in a rotation that is looking for a third guy. He has experience and with such a new team we are going to have next season, his experience will help on Saturday, maybe Sunday. But I would def consider him for my weekend rotation if I was CPM, at least to start the season.

1. I didn't see it when I posted this thread
2. Why not? No seriously, everyone says no and I am curious as to why?

It just seems like one of the younger guys will step and maybe I'm off but it would seem they have a much higher ceiling. If he steps up and takes a weekend spot that is awesome because that means he is pretty good. Here is my question. How do you put him above poche in the rotation when he has worse stats against much easier completion?

Not only did you put him right on the weekend but you slotted him ahead of Poche?

tadelatt would not know you type it 6.1. 6.3 innings is 7 innings.

I think naming McKay a starter is also a little premature. Latz is an option, Godfrey is an option, this guy from Akron, Cain, we have a lot of good choices. I think McKay is a front runner for sure they need to see him pitch in college a little before he is cemented in.

The third starter will be decided during fall and spring practice games, IMO. There are several good options for the coaches to pick from. I hope that whomever they decide on works out to be the one that sticks for the whole season.

We will have a lot more kids starting midweek games and then getting an opportunity for a Sunday start. Pauline totally bungled the staff this year by failing to use midweek games to develop viable 2nd line starters. His goofy Allstaff approach blew up in his face and was exposed for the mistake it is.

He's been outclassed in Omaha and-one would hope-he realizes winning 55 games and the SEC Regular Season won't allow him to keep his job much longer unless he adds postseason WINS outside of places like Hoover, AL and Baton Rouge. To do that he's gotta develop pitchers behind Lange and Poche that he can get two passes through a lineup out of. The all staff approach is for Community College all star games.

That shite got shoved down his throat in Omaha.
