Picking an EPL team

Heh guys I'm diving headfirst into EPL this year and am looking forward to following soccer for the first time in my life
I've done my research and wanted y'alls input on the two teams I'm down to
It's between Tottenham and Chelsea
What can y'all tell me? Pros/Cons?
I wanted a good team but not a frontrunner Yankee/Laker type of team
What US teams would you compare these two with?
Thanks in advance

Go with the one you can spell.

Tottinham
You should probably learn how to spell it first.

Then why is Chelsea an option?

Obviously not

Sorry I fixed it. I was told Liverpool and Man U and arsenal were 3 most popular.

I would just start watching lots of games and highlights every weekend. You will find yourself drawn to a team eventually. Don't force it

ETA:
OP, I'm gonna level with you. You're coming at this the wrong way.
1. Don't look for comparisons between the EPL and US sports. It's a different world.
2. Research is good, but you seem to be researching the wrong things. Look at their foundations, their traditional support base, ownership, etc.
3. Unless you have a really good reason, don't pick a club without watching them for a long time. Other posters on here will tell you to watch matches, highlight shows, etc. until you find a style of play that you like. This is good advice, but it doesn't take into account the problem of managerial turnover (EPL managers get sacked extremely frequently). When a new manager comes in, players get moved out and the style of play changes.
4. Don't pick a club based on a player. They leave. Frequently.

Man U is the most popular because they were the only team anyone knew until like 10 years ago.
Liverpool and Arsenal are the hipster choices so you get to support a big club and live in fake torment about how close you are and claim your aren't really a bandwagon fan because you never really win anything.
City are terrorists.
Tottenham is irrelevant.
With Chelsea you always have a chance and you get to root for a bunch of model professionals and have the greatest manager in the game.
The choice is yours

Chelsea actually has a chance to win something

Then Chelsea shouldn't be one of your choices

What is funny to me is the amount of people who became Arsenal fans because they were the first team on FIFA.
I became an Arsenal fan because of they play more than anything

Chelsea are probably most like the New England Patriots. They don't have a lot of history, but they have won a ton since 2000.
Tottenham is shite.
So, you can choose between the Patriots and shite.

It's funny you say that considering that Chelsea players support terrorism against American people

Why don't you just go to FC Dallas games?

Go with Bournemouth. This will be their first year in the Premier League, so you can get in on the ground floor.

Don't simply pick one just because. You have to feel it. Otherwise you will lose interest.
I realize that's hard to do without focusing on one team and watching all their games, reading about them, etc. But you have to actually care about the results to fully get into the team. That goes for any sport.
Out of those two, Spurs. Chelsea already has many major trophies recently, so there's not a lot more to aspire to winning.

Stoke City is basically a US team, so go with them.

Tots = a team that's always interesting, but never good enough.
Chelsea = the Patriots
Chelsea = the Patriots

I'd suggest recording the 2 match of the day episodes each week on NBCS and watch that for a while before picking a team. The show comes on Saturday and Sunday nights and is essentially a much longer highlight show. Instead of showing 30 seconds of the game, they show 10 minutes or so and let you get a feel for the game. Match of the DAy is kind of a confusing title because it actually shows all of the games instead of what is deemed the best of the day. This will help you get a feel of all of the teams.
Of course, the best route is to just watch a ton of games, but not everyone has time for that.

Don't just blindly pick a team. Watch some games. I watched a ton of games as a neutral observer before I was drawn to Liverpool. Watched them beat City in the rain, and I could feel the atmosphere at Anfield through my television. I was hooked.
I went into the EPL expecting to end up a Tottenham fan. Have a friend that pulls for Spurs and I started my FIFA career with Spurs. After a few weekends of watching though, Liverpool was the only choice for me. Don't pin yourself into a corner before you've even watched a game.
