the key is having the tab open of the product before the deal, then F5 until the time, and go as fast as possible...then you have 15 minutes to decide once it's in your cart...I've never had trouble doing this in the past except maybe once or twice

I think it's a success. There are definitely deals. They're not all massive, and some are crap, but someone is getting them and it's kinda fun.

honestly the best deal I think I've seen has been those cole haan shoes for 40 dollars

Did you keep refreshing or did they just allow you to purchase them after waiting?
It seems they fixed the lightning deal glitch where you can keep joining the wait list and eventually able to purchase the item. I got pretty lucky this morning
