If you are in the umpiring association you get around 70 a game for the summer games. So basically you are getting that money for doing games that no one cares about.

i can tell you soccer:
Varsity
2 officials $55 each
3 officials $60 center and $40 each line
JV
2 officials $45 each
3 officials $45 center and $35 each line
Middle School
1 official $30 5th and 6th grade
1 official $35 7th 8th 9th
2 officials $35 each the 8th 9th
3 officials $35 center and $30 each line 7th 8th 9th
a few travel examples (this is for the new orleans association)
Chalmette - $13 total
Fountainebleau - $39 total
Northlake Christian - $44 total
Northshore - $45 total
there is no travel if the school is within the association footprint (like a Newman or Rummel)
this is the crew total, to be divided by all drivers or one driver if everyone rides together

Figured someone would come up with this sooner or later. And just to let you know our association is requested by coaches throughout the state, so we must be doing something right
But that being said, there are good officials in every association and bad officials in every association. Unfortunately our numbers do not allow us to have observers that know rules and mechanics at every game for us to know who's who (by the way, we don't listen to the people in the stands for this, we try to listen to coaches and observers). We try to train, but in all reality it takes at least five years worth of snaps to become competent and our numbers sometimes force us to put officials on the field who are not ready. If anyone reading feels that they could do better, then come on out, we could use you. A lot of our experience left us for Texas or just left because of all the hoops we have to jump through because of the last round of talks.

Each association is different, but I believe the going rate is 25 cents/mile from a central meeting point, I could be mistaken. Since we travel as a crew, it either goes to the driver or the white hat.

And the five dollar raise in 2011 wasn't really a raise. It required officials to attend a camp every other year which took the raise away. Then you had to make 90% or above the test to obtain said raise. if you made 80%-90% you basically made the same game fee. Anything below 80% and you took a pay cut. If you study at all, you should make above 80%, but that's beside the point. However, they give you a 320 question study guide then give you sixty questions on the test.
On top of all of these issues, dues to the local associations and the LHSAA have gone up around $15 a year since 2011. No official does it for the money, but they won't go in the hole doing it either.

The LHSOA gave this to the schools in May. They should have plenty of money budgeted for it.

i don't understand his comments.
he says the LHSOA is not a sanctioned group that the LHSAA can negotiate with. But then he says the LHSOA bylaws state that they are a subgroup of the LHSAA. can someone clear this up for me.

As a former LHSOA member I can honestly say this has been a long time coming
The problem here is the pay scale is so bad that the only new recruits that are willing to work for that pay are the "hustlers" that typically work low wage jobs and supplement their income with year round officiating. So their professionalism is nonexistent, their attitudes are at best lackadaisical and at worst confrontational and their ability to improve is nonexistent
In the Acadiana area we noticed a significant drop off in the talent and ability of the new recruits which causes the assignment secretary to burn out his top tier (older guys) or throw unproven guys into tough environments.
I moved to Texas and quit officiating, so to all of you know it alls and critics you get what you pay for

we lost bankers, salesmen, office managers, and other professionals that cared about the job and gained city worker types and labor crew members that only care about the money

Yep. Heard it more than once last season with the LHSAA guys officiating my CSAL games when playing the last game of the night that "we needed to speed this up so I can get my check and go home."

It doesn't seem like the officials get paid enough. I'd go with paying them a little more, especially with how much more serious high school football is now days and how much more of a priority schools are putting on it.

High school baseball/softball officials are not required to be at a game an hour early. You may have been talking about football officials and I misunderstood.
