not sure i have one but my relationship with food has gotten crazy and friends and family have told me ive gotten too skinny

im 5'10 and a half, use to be 225lbs and started losing weight slowly over 2-3 years. well now im down to 148-150lbs with a large frame and curious what the first step should be on getting some help?

do i contact a dietitian? a Physiatrists? a doctor?

i want to bulk up but im too afraid to gain fat. i dont know how to cut back. im OCD and work out 7 days a week for 2 hours a day. run 6-8 miles per day and lift and do stairclimber.

i will pig out and eat crazy amounts of food for dinner and then try to work it off the next day. when i know i have a big meal ahead i will fast and not eat until dinner.

its gotten bad and not sure where to start. id like to be a healthy 165-170 with lean muscle. its just hard for someone who has lost 75 lbs to tell them they need to eat more. its weird.

TIA. Yes i know this is the OT, but im hoping for maybe 20% useful replies.

If you are serious and not a troll then all 3. Start with your doctor, get recs, good luck

Cousin of one of my fraternity brothers. A Chi O, funny smart, pretty, on the thin side but not emaciated. Lost track of her, reconnected with my fraternity brother a while back and asked about her. After college her demons got the better of her. Treatment didn't work, and she ultimately died of anorexia. Very very sad.

ETA: here's a link, with some resources including a hotline. LINK

This happened to me to an extent a few years back when I went from 250 to 195 in one year. And it was a lean 195. I was running the same amount you did, lifted and swam. Eventually, it led to injury. Since then, I have not been able to maintain the physique. In your case, I think a doctor is the first bet. He will likely suggest what you know already, though, take it easier. Don't be afraid to eat and skip a session every now and then. If you cannot mentally overcome this, then there is a psychological issue and this could be bad and very expensive.

Doctor.

OCD and eating disorders go hand in hand.

Serious question..are you autistic or have spectrum issues?

Some ABA therapy would probably be most beneficial but go to a doctor first to get a full panel done to make sure something else isn't going on.

Dude I am glad you are admitting it. Some of the stuff you have posted in the past was ridiculous.

You just described an eating disorder to the T. That is not a healthy relationship with food.

Also

This is really stupid and you are going to injure yourself, burn out, or both lifting 7 days a week

You're terrified of getting back up to 225 lbs. Your fear and habits clearly make this a disorder. Now, before you start worrying... 90% of people have an imperfect relationship with food. Congrats on acknowledging your issue and seeking assistance. Start with your doctor, and get referred to a psychologist who specializes in these issues.

Good luck to you. This is treatable and beatable.

If you are really worried about schedule an appointment with your doctor. He/she can answer your questions much better than the OT.

I have to say that your head seems to already be in the right place for you to receive help. This is huge when it comes to something like this.

First, contact your primary care physician and explain to them what's going on. They can refer you to a psychiatrist. The mental part is usually the toughest part. Your doctor can also refer you to a nutritionist/dietician.

Best of luck man. You've already made big step in accepting that you may have a problem.

I would start with you doctor and get a physical with blood work just to see where you stand.
Get a referral to a dietician and a therapist who works with eating disordered individuals. Not a psychiatrist unless they deem you a candidate for meds.
Stay off the scale unless you are meeting with your doctor or therapist. Unless they tell you to do so for tracking/monitoring.

Good luck to you.

When I drink too much I often go on a 12-18 hour food bender the next day

Call the Eating Recovery Center of Dallas. It is actually in Plano. It opened a couple of years or so ago and is a satellite office of the ERC in Denver which is more or less the oldest and first eating disorder center in the country.

Use them for an initial interview and assessment. Many different levels of care. Sounds like you are open to change so that is a huge first step.

I eat enough to make myself sick (laid up, not throwed up) a few times a week at dinner. I think I have an eating disorder. I'm like a junkyard dog that wasn't fed as a puppy

Great responses. Thanks so much

I think it's purely mental and being so routine and scared to death of getting out of the routine

Dead serious most days I struggle to make it upstairs without stopping of exhaustion. However I can run 8-9 miles no problem

I did get a physical and I was anemic. I take iron pills now and I'm always freezing. I can barely go swimming now because pools make me numb and freezing. Went this weekend and it was 95 out and I had chills

GF is a recovering bulimic. From the photos I've seen, she was very frail during her senior year of college. Thank god she recovered because her curves are fricking amazing.

To the OP, you need to eat more protein and carbs. You're burning a LOT working out 7x a week. You need a gd rest day or two. Go talk to a nutritionist or someone at a gym. I know a few guys I work with are amateur bodybuilders, they just do it for fun/healthwise. You should talk to someone like that too.

Thanks. Part of my problem is I'm a type A former athlete very competitive ocd person

I don't know when to stop and I will have days with nothing planned and I run 4-5 miles like nothing and mentally I think "I feel great why would I stop when I can keep going and burn more calories?" I keep doing that until I'm to 9-10 miles. Some days 11/12

I feel like if i ever take time off I could be at the gym burning calories

I know this sounds weird but I have hardly any sex drive anymore and food is all I think about. I even dream of eating

She was too. She swam in high school and half of college then suffered an injury. She still gets 'OCD' when she works out for 3-5 days in a row and then I remind her to take it easy.

You really do need to get some help. I wish I could just tell you to take a break and turn it off but I know it's not that easy. She shared her experiences when we started dating and I was truly shocked. And her parents told me she hid it so well.

You need to find a second outlet to refocus your energy towards. If you have no sex drive, are you even with someone?
