Of interest, or perhaps horror, to Pelicans fans:

46. Al-Farouq Aminu: 2-year mid-level with Pelicans.
47. Omer Asik: 4 years, $40 million with Pelicans.

Honestly I wouldn't be mad with Aminu. He excelled in a faster paced offense with the Mavs. And the Asik deal isn't bad at all with the projected cap.

Would love to sign asik for a 1 or 2 year deal nothing more.

that to me would be a slam dunk offseason
only thing I'd rather would be ed Davis swapped for aminu

frick my life.
That's too much I think for Asik at this point, looking at all of the articles about what his worth is now.
If its 4 years, 36 seems about right, but I'd rather a shorter contract.
And I've said my piece about AFA. If you put him in lineups with either Asik or Reke you've got spacing issues. I'm not a fan at all, but it is what it is.
I will say this, if those are our two big offseason signings, this fanbase will have a complete meltdown.

Man,we have very different definitions of "slam dunk" offseasons.

Is what it is. Big man upstairs doesn't make a ton of 7 footers, so you have to pay them a premium. It's the cost of doing business.
AFA as a 4, in a fast pace, is really the best way to use him. AD at the 5 for 15 minutes a game, including the last 5 minutes of the second and the fourth is exactly what we want.
I have no problem with these moves, just tell AFA one thing...no jumpers...
Small ball lineup of:
Jrue
EG
QPon
AFA
AD
Not the worst line-up I have ever seen. Sub-in Reke for the 1-3 as needed.

That I can agree with, but I certainly don't want him starting at 3, and I don't want to pay him the full MLE.
I see him as a BAE guy, but apparently he's going to get a lot more. I just don't see it.

AFA for the full MLE would be pretty bad.
Also, I wouldn't want Asik at 4 years. I'm okay with 10 mil per if it's a shorter deal, though.
Definitely not a fricking slam dunk, this would be more like an Asik fumbled pass.
ETA: this guy also had Tyson Chandler taking the mini mid level to go to the Clippers...

Best thing about signing AFA to me is that it would signal that the FO sees AD for what he is, which is a 5 in today's game. The more AD we see at the 5, the more devastating this team will be, especially come late-April...
It should be noted that AD can't log huge minutes at the 5. Which is why we will pay Asik the 9-10 mil per year to carry the water from November to mid-april.
ETA: No way AFA gets the full MLE.

Exactly. Very apt.

Is a Asik going to get an offer for 10 mil on the open market? I doubt it. I'd play hardball with him. Offer him something like 3 for 25 (or 27), I doubt he gets more than that on the open market.

11. Dwyane Wade: 5 years, $82 million with the Pels. In tomorrow's cap dollar's perspective, D Wade will be worth every penny helping Anthony Davis deliver his first NBA Championship to the City of New Orleans before he leaves for the bright lights.

2 years/$12 million is too much for Aminu though. Heck, if Chandler really would come that cheaply, I would give him the entire MLE.

Aminu interest means they likely see Anderson as a core piece. He is a great complement to Anderson. Tie most of his minutes to Ryno and that's a solid 3/4 combo. Holiday, Gordon/QPon, Aminu, Anderson, and Davis is an intriguing, potentially very potent, lineup.
Aminu with Asik is probably not good, but Aminu w/ Evans has worked....with Anderson. It was limited minutes, but their 3 man lineup was effective two years ago.

so we're paying asik top 27ish money for a barely top 50 free agent player. frick that.
Posted on 6/30/15 at 11:22 am to Chad504boy
Value for all but a handful of players is relative.
Asik's skill set, the cap situation, and team timeline make $10M fair. Perhaps a little pricey, but he fits a need for the Pels that would be hard to replace if he walks.

Aminu should be in the D-league
I would be extremely pissed if we used our MLE on him

Not thrilled with that, but it's a reasonable deal we could trade later most likley.
Would much rather 1 year at anything over any multi year dear for the worst offensive center in the league.
If those two deals happen tomorrow, it will make for a shitty day and offseason.
