I decided to purchase my own golf cart thinking that they'd waive the cart fee since I was using my own cart - but I learned to never assume anything.
So they still charge for the cart, even if you bring your own? Is that standard for most courses? If so, what is the purpose of having your own cart if it's not to save money?

It's pretty standard, but they usually call it a trail fee instead
I guess the only advantage is having a golf cart to ride around the neighborhood and never have to unload your stuff

The way I heard is they will allow a guest membership that will entitle you to play about 4 times a year.

No one that I've heard of allows you to use your own cart on their course without incurring a trail fee. That's standard practice in the business.
It's for locals who like to keep their clubs ready to go in the garage. I'd do it if I lived in a golf neighborhood.

I still think it's a rip off to charge me a trail fee or whatever you want to call it. Next they'll charging me a fee if I bring my pull cart- I can't stand how this industry nickle and dimes you as a golfer

update course/club will be going private August 1st. Diez claims he's doing it for several things: 1. bring the community closer together - yes by alienating the residents that choose not to pay his greedy arse monies to not only golf but just to drink a sinking beer at his bar. So after August 1st only members allowed in the club house - he's doing us a favor I keep telling myself 2. By helping to increase our properties values - but couldn't give any hard facts. yea right.
Like a buddy of mine likes to say - "fukem and feed them fish heads"
I despise greedy people that act like they are doing you a favor and its for your benefit.

Well I play PP just about once a week after work since it's 10mins from my office and all I can say if this is true it will be the death of this course. There is no way this course with be able to sustain itself from members only. Why would you pay a membership to a course that is in no better shape the most of the BREC courses. The crabgrass, goose grass and other trash grass that's on this course is just absurd. Played there last week and the fairways looked like a Dalmation with all the spots from where they sprayed the trash grass.

My parents live there and was one of the first set of houses back in the late 90's. They had a cart and a membership. What ultimately drove them away from being members was the attitude given to them by the then pro. The new pro is cool. But there were a few horses' asses. Telling my mother that she couldn't bring water from the house and needed to buy from PP refreshment cart. Really? You're gonna piss off your members over making a few dollars on a water? And there were other issues too, with tee times getting pushed back an hour upon arrival. And charging a fee to own a cart and use your own cart.
They better get their shite straight and treat members right if they want this to work.

Most places even charge you to walk.

It's hard to make the money numbers work for a Private course membership. I feel that these membership fees are more like a networking fee.
Posted on 7/3/15 at 7:40 am to dagrippa
At a time where golf courses are struggling, I would think they would bury the cart fee in the overall monthly membership fee. Especially Pelican Point.
Better to hide it than to piss people off.
And I can remember going to visit my parents and the course would be group after group teeing off. Now, you might see a group once every ten minutes. If that. They are definitely struggling.

quote:Assume that the costs to operate the golf course remain the same, but the number of rounds played gets reduced. The revenue per round of golf has to go up to cover the costs of operating the golf course. Are there enough people willing to pay more per round for the membership privilege to play Pelican Point? I'd like to see the projected numbers that make the private club option work.
That'd be a costly mistake if they did

Just wondering. What happens to the 9 hole course? Members only no tee times? Shut it down?
Posted on 7/3/15 at 10:03 am to NC17
they currently have 350 members with a goal of 500 members, the goat ranch 9 hole couse will be members only as well.

i know you contribute to the money board so you are probably better at finance than myself, but I don't see how this can work by basically off public golf the money to make that up has to come from somewhere? if the current members are 350 i'd like to know how many of the members are in pp vs oustide the developement.
Based on limited research i have done via google I think the club is financially strained to begin with.

La Tour is going private in the fall.
Posted on 7/5/15 at 10:42 am to BRgetthenet
is this a growing trend? pp said they met with a consultant out of the midwest that help them - i'm sure a consulting fee was involved - ha. I could imagine that the consultant traveled thru south La dropping names as he signed up clubs with his program and had others sign up as well - this is pure speculation on my part.
