re: Who here has a Radar Detector in their vehicle?

I've had an Escort 9500ix for a couple years now and love it. It's like a license to speed. I never expected to love it this much and had never used one up until a couple years ago. I decided to get one when I had to drive to Dallas to pick up my Porsche a couple years ago - figured I'd want to play a bit on the long drive back home.
I had just assumed that virtually all cops use lasers now, but that is not the case at all. We do a lot of out of state travel for my kid's karate tournaments - well over a dozen out of state trips a year - so I put a lot of miles on the interstate. In the two years I've been using mine, I've only encountered laser 3 times. And what surprises me the most is that the overwhelming majority of cop cars drive around with their radar on ALL the time. I rarely see a cop car that I wasn't alerted to first, usually about a half mile away. On the last few trips I've taken, which averaged around 500 miles each way, I've averaged around 76 mph for the whole trip. And I don't mean that's what I'm driving on the interstate - I mean stops and everything, from the time I leave my house til I arrive at my destination, I average 76 mph for the entire trip. On the interstate I'm usually doing 82-85. If something happened to mine, I'd buy another tomorrow. It's indispensable for the way I drive - especially in the ticket target I drive now.

You're an idiot if you don't have one. Great investment

Escort Redline and Waze.

Escort Max 2. Cost $600. Not cheap, but has saved my arse countless times. Also have a V1 sitting around somewhere. Got tired of all the stores in the area setting it off.

I used to have a valentine 1 but I gave it to my mom as I drive a jeep now. I just use waze and still speed everywhere.
Buy a v1 with the updated firmware, it's the best.
Nothing can really stop you from laser so more than anything its just good timing and luck.

I have the Passport Max. Useful tool IMO.

Good luck defeating LIDAR.

I have one and a laser jammer, and I only have to be worried about instant-on radar (which I can pick up ahead of time occasionally). I know where cops hang out, so I pay extra attention there. I can say that it takes a while to be able to read what the detector is telling you. Like a year to be good at it.
V1 that needs to be updated to stop all of the alerts from radar cruise controls, and a Laser Interceptor Quad (all 4 on front). I have them turned off when I'm in New Orleans, but I turn them on everywhere else. Drive the Causeway every other day, and I still enjoy getting alerts 5 miles away
I have X turned off, and K set to make noise once it gets to 4 lights. Ka is set to be more sensitive. Also have Ku and Euro mode off
I drive fast (normally 15 over; 15-25 on the interstate) everywhere except in neighborhoods, and I have gotten plenty of tickets

I used a radar detector for years and have to say that it worked very well...instant on radar made it a lot less effective and when speed limits on interstates went to 70 - 75 MPH, I no longer found it useful...

I used to, then I downloaded the Waze app.

1. Stealth
2. Yes (has saved me thousands)
3. Most of the time
In Virginia "they say" the LEOs can detect your detector. Hmm, I have no experience with them being able to detect a detector.

Maybe it's because I am older, or do mostly city driving, but I don't speed much anymore. You get more life out of your vehicle, better gas mileage and less likely to die on the road.

Passport Redline...dual antenna for long range interstate or highway detection. Has K, Ka, X, and laser bands.it is very accurate, I opted not to go with the one with all the inner city camera info in lieu of the dual antenna. They both run $499--has paid for itself 100x over.
