Ford F 150 EcoBoost owners. Oil changes?

I'm currently sitting at the 4k mark but the "oil life" gague says I'm at 60%. I've never changed mine at 3k and usually go to 5k or so anyway. When to change? Mileage or "oil life?"

Full synthetic change every 8k or so

So does the 8k mark kinda line up with what the oil life meter says?

Pretty sure you can change the intervals on your display
Posted on 6/10/15 at 8:06 pm to PapaPogey
Yeah you can reset it to zero I know. Didn't know you could do intervals.
Posted on 6/10/15 at 8:20 pm to PapaPogey
Don't think that's possible.

My ford Taurus is 5k miles at 50%
Motorcraft oil synthetic blend (good oil), motorcraft filter at 5k miles

I'm full synthetic and go 5k with the same truck you have. That is what my dealer recommends.

I change mine every 5k at the dealership with Motorcraft synthetic blend. I tow my boat alot so do every 5k but the meter says 50%. My cousin has a f150 and changes it when light comes on so thats about 10k and hasn't had any issues.

Go by OLM, use a full synthetic that meets the spec, and at least pull the dipstick and check the level every 1000 miles. Turbos are hard on oil and even the best synthetics are going to lose volume just by heat in the CHRA not including what is normally burned in the combustion chamber.

I believe the meters are set for 8-10k. Full synthetic. You can change the meter yourself to remind you, if you prefer to get more frequent oil changes. Use your steering wheel buttons to access the display on the instrument cluster.
If you get your oil changed at a dealership, they will set it back to 100%, so you will have to change it to 80% or whatever you prefer after you get the oil change.

I generally follow the oil life gauge- last time I was at the dealership, my tech said something about changing in more frequently with the hot temps during the summer, but I just figured he was upselling me.

I change between 3k and 5k depending on where and how it's been driven. I use full synthetic oil. This is for any engine except the cat in the Peterbilt.

My dad owns an oil change shop, I don't know the exact specs/recommendations of the oil manufacturers, but he usually says 7500 miles max, that fact that it has turbos and most who post on this board live in very hot climates I would go conservative (Granted, getting my oil changed is probably less of a big deal than most)

What's the point in changing synthetic that frequently? Do you tow in hilly terrain 90% of the time?

Read the manual. Follow the manual.
Oil life monitors are usually a far better indicator than mileage.
Either way, FOLLOW THE OWNERS MANUAL
